I was studying about progesterone lately and I realized that some progesterones are androgen agonists  (masculinizing effects) and others have androgen antagonistic effects (de-masculinizing).

I wonder if that's right, is there any evidence of any afab who only took androgenic progesterone as an hrt?  What were the effects long term? were the risks and effects smaller or equal to low dose androgens/T.

Also, Are there androgens with both less masculinizing effects and long term effect risks?

Im curious, human physiology always intrigued me.

I took it for several months at the start of my HRT in addition to it and there were no ill effects. Masculinization was extremely quick in my case regardless.

I took it at the start to prevent any menstrual cycles before testosterone got rid of them for good. The only noticeable androgenic effects of norethisterone progesterone was oilier skin, something the testosterone took over with.

I've been taking bioidentical progesterone in combination with my T.  Just started T 3 months ago.  The progesterone for me was/is for treatment of pcos. My prescribing doctor said it wouldn't interfer with my transition (which was echoed by my hrt specialist). So far I've noticed quite a lot of positive changes. :D

Well,  sweet.  did progesterone had any masculizing effects before the T or was it only PCOS?

From what my doctor told me, the pcos was what caused my masculinization prior to starting T, bit of extra facial hair and body hair etc. Although I did not have very high androgen levels prior to starting T so I am not sure of the exact mechanism or cause. I have taken a nonbioidentical and bioidentical progesterone and neither seem to cause any additional masculinization on their own.
