I am going in to surgery to have a hysterectomy in about 6 weeks. It is my first surgery related to my transitioning to male. I always thought that top surgery would be my first surgery, but due to funds and another medical condition (bad endometriosis), I have decided to have a hysterectomy first. I am both excited and scared about this!

I am fairly overweight (94kg), and so have to try to get down to as close to 80kg as possible before surgery (with the help of a dietician). I have to say I am struggling to keep to such. St ict diet!

Just wondering who else out there has had a hysterectomy as their first transitioning surgery? Did it go well? Were you able to get it done through key hole, or did they have to open you up? Was the recovery ok?

I think I just have a bit of anxiety because my transitioning surgery plan has been changed to what I always thought it wouldn't be. I always thought I would have a hysterectomy last, but now I am having it first.

There are a few people that do it first. The good thing about doing it first is that it is a "female" procedure so insurance companies will not deny coverage because you are trans. Other people have trouble down the line getting a "female" procedure done after having documents updated to say male.

I did a hystorectomy  7 years ago. I have no regrets. No periods. No pain. No nothing. They did it through the key hole. No problems. No scars.

After surgery my doc said it would feel like a lot of pain. Like heavy menstrual pain. I felt nothing. My menstrual pains left me in bed barely breathing.

nixy360, you are not the first one to have a hysterectomy as your first surgery.  Have you started T already so you can have yours ovaries removed too and not have a major hormones change?  As has been said insurance should pay for everything with no questions.  Good luck and let us know how everything goes for you.

For me, I'm new to realizing I'm a transman.  But due to health things and my age I will be getting a full hysterectomy at the end of July.  I am so GLAD.  I have already gone through menopause so that will make it easier for me.  My preference would have been to get upper surgery first because that bothers me the most.  But I'm just happy that I'm making at least some progress.  I may have to have the laparoscopic assisted version because of the health concern.  But I know whatever it will take to be comfortable with myself is better than living the way I have been.  This is one step closer to authenticity freedom.  Take care, dude.  Feel free to msg me if you need to talk about it.
