Did the Botox in masseter thing

After my consultation with Eppley last week, I decided t give the botox masseter reduction a try. Not because he recommended it, but because he didn't see having surgery on my masseters as a big priority. The botox trick seems like an easy way to get some moderate results without any more surgery. Frankly, I've had enough of that for now.

I called my GRS surgeon and she did it during my checkup yesterday. She did 25 units, 5 shots, deep into each masseter. I can already feel the relaxation in the muscles. They aren't knotting up nearly as much with a clenched jaw. The effects are supposed to last 6 months before you need to redo it but it takes less botox each time to achieve the same result. The average unit price for Botox is $7-$10 a unit, but you can find it cheaper on Groupon. The problem is injector needs to know what they doing.

Has anyone else done this more than once? I'll update this with pictures when I have some after pics to show. I guess we will find out if it works.

Hi. I am planning to do this soon. Still need to make an appointment for the consultation though. Do you know if it will become permanent to a degree after a while? Keep us updated.

Sorry, I thought I had already replied to this and I guess I deleted it on my phone.

It's not permanent from one round of injections. It's supposed to last about 6 months and then you have to do it again or the muscles will start to build up again. From what I've been told, it takes less botox each time you to it to achieve the same result. I am very surprised on how well it works after just 2 weeks and the Doc said it usually takes about 6 weeks to see the results. I think the main thing to be wary of is making sure the shots are evenly distributed and symmetrical in location. Otherwise, you might end up a wee lopsided. It would be easy enough to correct if that did happen since this isn't surgery.

I can clearly see the see the difference, but using my fingers I can feel a noticeable change in the masseter profile. I'm already sold for another go at 6 months.

Well of course botox is not permanent after one session, I was thinking about the long run. Like after 5 or 6 sessions - if one doe snot have bad habits chewing gum or such...

I am having an appointment for a consultation and if I want also a session of treatment in 4 weeks.

So what difference do you see and feel?

You can feel the masseters are much lower after several days. There's no question about that even if you clench you jaw the knots of muscle are flattened because they are paralyzed for the lack of a better term. This is reflected in your face as well.

If you clench your jaw prior to getting the injections and feel the oversized masseter knots, you can pretty much count on those being reduced in size and slimming your face as a result.

This has been my experience anyway.

Ok - I guess I will have to see - I think I have not too much oversized muscles there, so maybe the change will be more subtle. How can it best be seen? frontal Photographs or Profile?

From the front, definitely.  You will be able to feel the difference with your fingers in a couple of days. The atrophy of the muscles takes a little longer. Like I said I wasn't expecting to see the results until 4 to 6 weeks. I'm hoping it gets even better.

I was also thinking of making a tooth risers to wear at night to keep me from clenching my jaw. they are easy to make and just snap over a molar.  I made mouth guards for my braces with the same material. This stuff comes in handy for all kinds of things. You just heat it up in some water and mold whatever you want.

Ok - lol - is this safe to do? I have a mold but it was made from my dentist and shaped so that it protects my teeth without creating bad shifts. I use it now to lessen the tension a bit, but I think the Botox is better - stronger, faster, less messy and also hopefully makes the jaw appear less wide.

I just make small ones that hold on to one or two teeth. They dont shift anything it just puts 1/4" between my teeth when I sleep or feel like im clenching. Its easy to use and you can molds over and over. All i do is make a pea-sized ball and bite down on it and it molds to your teeth. Its not stcky. Drink some cold water and  you can pop it right oppand use it over and over.

I actually have braces on my teeth now. I used that plastic to cover some vicious wires. Sure beat using the wax, but its not a high tech dental solution.

So, I did this thing today as well. 3 injections on each side. Now what is going to happen? I do not know yet. i am going to take photos tomorrow. I was told in 3-4 dys the effect should be happening, but I think the visual changes will take longer than the relief of the tooth grinding.

I definitely noticed the difference in a few days, but at three weeks they were as flat as pancakes. Count me in on this one.

Oh, lets see then. Its been 2 days and I feel a bit of relaxation, less tightness, some weird feeling in the area - but still not that much significant change. I still can feel strong mucles tightening when I clench the jaw. But the sait 3-4 days, so lets see at the end of the week how it goes. Maybe I need a stronger dosage next time. My body seems to just like having muscles. I do not work out, really and still have considerable strength. I took photos yesterday and see if I can take more in 3 weeks. The doctor said that the changes visually will only be subtle though, probably.

Do you know how many units were in each injection? I had a total of 50 units, 25 on each side.

I think it was 3 injections on each side with 6 units each, so a total of 36 units. She said she can dose it higher if I want, but since I never had facial botox so far, she saif for the first time she recommends a bit lower dosage.
At about $11 per unit it already was quite an expense.

I feel now that the muscle did relax quite a bit. If I clench, it does not show as much anymore and I can open my mouth wider or yawn without the muscle blocking at first, so it does have some effect after now about 6 days. I think however next time, I will ask for a bit higher dosage. She said however if it is too high, I may get problems with some harder to chew foods , so better not overdo it the first time.

I guess you need less and less as time goes.  I'm only planning on 40 units next time.  Check Groupon for deals. They have them.

So far I found only a handful of people who offer the Botox massetter muscle thing. Most others only do botox for wrinkles and such. I do not want to go to someone who misplaces the injection and then I get some unwanted effect. I also think, it is not legal in Germany to advertize that way for something like Botox. Its rather restrictive here to advertize for cosmetic procedures that can only done by a medical professional. So searching for "Botox" in Groupon gives 0 Results

My GCS surgeon did mine. She knew exactly what she was doing.

I am divided about the result. It makes the face slimmer in one part, but a bit more square-ish in another part. So I like part of it and dislike another part of it - I guess its because it shows the jawbone more clearly now and this was not fixed with a FFS but maybe should be.
