Hello,

I've decided to detransition for reasons I won't go in to, as I'm mainly looking for advice right now. I've been on T (nebido, every 12 weeks) for just a little over a year now. My next injection is due in September, which I won't be taking. I was wondering what experiences people have had with stopping T? The following are my main concerns:

• Will my voice get a tinnnny bit higher? I know it will probably never return to how it was, but if it even gets a tiny bit higher, that's something.
• Weight gain - did anyone experience weight gain when stopping T? I've battled an eating disorder since I was 14 (now 19), and the possibility of gaining weight is very triggering for a relapse for me. If weight gain is common, is it managable with diet and exercise? It seems to me you would only gain if you ate more which oestrogen could cause (high appetite). I was quite slim before starting T, but have gotten slimmer on T. I don't know if that's hormone related or if I would've lost in due time anyway.
• Breast regrowth? T made my chest non existent. I'm not even an A cup lol. Will the breast tissue eventually plump back up? I never experienced weight distribution changes, so just think the flat chestedness has come from weight loss.
• Any other positive/negative changes I should know about? And any advice? Like how long it'll take to get the Oestrogen going through my body again, and should I have bloodwork done to monitor my E levels?

Best,

Amber.

For your body to start looking female again it'll take the same length of time that you were on T for. I've only heard of T causing high appetite not oestrogen; although oestrogen can cause monthly cravings which may make you eat more. Diet is far more important in order to lose weight but exercise can also be needed to stay healthy in moderation. If your chest had become flat due to losing weight and not fat distribution seems you might need to gain some weight in order to get your chest looking how you want it to look;  although it should still look a bit plumper without the T

As for voice I'm not sure. Depends on how well it had broken and if it had finished breaking before stopping T. Definitely won't go back to the female range though and your Adams apple will still be prominent.

I would think it would take time for your brain to readjust to a different amount of hormones the same as it took for your brain to readjust to an influx of T. So you may not feel mentally at your best for a few weeks.

I'd still think it best to check your hormone levels for a year just so you know they've gone back to the levels they were before.
They/them pronouns preferred.

Im sure just about everything will revert back to normal. However if you have that facial hair, be prepared to shell out a pretty penny to have it zapped off.

I know you said you wont get into it, but i am a bit suprised you are detransioning. reading some of your past posts you seems so happy to finnally be able to transition to male. In any case, best of luck <3

From all the youtubers I've watched who have detransitioned, I've heard the following:

    • Voice will not return to pre-T, but there may be gains in vocal range- how much that will affect you depends on how much the voice has broken already.
    • Facial hair - you are likely to be stuck with it, so electrolysis will be in order
    • Your breasts will come back and from my 47 years on this earth, they will continue to enlarge if you continue to gain fat - apart from breast tissue, most of the breast is fat.
  • the only weight gain under your natural E will be due to some natural fat gain for females - roundness isn't just due to different skeletal structure, but mostly due to fat gains in specific areas.

Keep yourself fit, light exercise daily and sensible nutrition will help you maintain a great figure.

Thank you all for your replies! Sorry for the late response, been very caught up with life right now. I had an appointment with my specialist last week and he advised me on the options I now have available to me in terms of "re-transitioning" (apparently they don't like to use the term de-transition as it's inaccurate and implies I would be returning to the woman I was 4.5 years ago, which is unrealistic and impossible as I've grown as a person). He said there are limited studies regarding the timeline and effects of stopping HRT in FTMs, so can only speak from what he's seen in patients he's worked with.

He advised that weight gain is unlikely, though suggested I may see a shift in my bodyfat and muscle ratio. I didn't mention that I lift heavy, so while I expect to see SOME loss of muscle, I'd like to say that my body actually hasn't changed an awful lot in terms of shape since starting T a year ago. I'm a tiny but muscular and weigh about 7lbs less than I did pre-t, but the definition in my body is pretty much the same as pre-t (minus the tiny love handles I had) if that makes sense?

Gaining fat is a concern of mine as a recovering ED sufferer, as I do not want to relapse after finally reaching a healthy state in both mind and body.

He has prescribed cyproterone acetate twice daily until my oestrogen levels return to that of a normal woman. I'm reluctant to take it as I don't want to keep screwing with hormones and tempting the possibility of fat gain. Would you recommend it?

As you can see, I get EXTREMELY anxious about hormones and body image.

I look up cyproterone acetate and it's basically a T blocker however it has some additional uses such as treating OCD. As it also contains progesterone, it might cause your apatite to increase however T may have been doing that already so as long as you remain active and continue to watch you intake, I wouldn't expect much if any  change in your weight.

If I were to take it woukd the Nebido clear out of my system quicker or would it just block it's effects while it clears out on it's own? My last injection was in June, and my next is due in September which I obviously won't be taking. I just want my body to get back to functioning naturally as soon as possible.

I think it would only block the effect. As you seem to be using a long lasting T, it possible your levels may remain elevated for a few months after your September injection date. If you don't mind the additional T in your system, I don't see a reason to take it. If you want to stop the changes as soon as possible, that is what the drug is for.
