Rosacea and T?

Quick question, y'all

For those of you who have the skin condition rosacea, have you experienced a change in it after going on T? Rosacea runs in my family, and I have a mild form of it that I'm afraid might get worse on hormones. I'm going to see a doctor soon about it, but I'm hoping someone here could alleviate my fears a little bit.

So if you have rosacea, did it get better or worse after starting testosterone? Or did it stay the same?

Thanks for your time! Any input is appreciated.

I am super picky about skin products that go on me face. Since this has some amazing natural ingredients I wanted to try this. Not only do I have super sensitive skin and tend to always get rosacea only on the right side of my face under my eye.It has been working extremely well and when I put it on  it immediately calms rosacea and stops the itch.thanks.

It got better.

But there are some studies suggesting the link between rosacea and several other conditions you may want to look into, such as the link between it and oral hormonal contraceptives (studies have shown rosacea to increase three fold by taking them), it and demodex, it and niacin, it and sun damage, hypoxia, etc.

Retinol cream or serum is often suggested for rosacea treatment, as well as or along with antibiotics.

My understanding on it is that T might make things worse, while E might get things better. But statistically, rosacea happens about in equal numbers in men and women, so either hormone doesn't seem to play the major role in it.

I have fairly mild vascular rosacea, and I started in treatment (antibiotic cream) for it at about the same time I started T. My rosacea has faded some, but I don't know if it's entirely from the antibiotic treatment, from the T, or a combination.

On the plus side, the same antibiotic cream I use for the rosacea seems to be at least somewhat effective against testosterone acne. I was already starting a bit of acne, and it stopped within days of using the cream. Nice side effect!

Hi,really really new here, not looking for solutions or answers re rosacea, just fellow sufferers to chat to.I'm Petra waiting for g I c to get back to me,doing my best with coping strategies in the meantime.I suffer with rosacea which flared up dramatically on my face recently so much so I can't leave the house easily or sometimes at all,I feel so heartbroken and not like me at all, really struggling with haircare regime as I'm so sore.I am under a dermatologist, and hope to get some positive helpful advice in the next couple of weeks.A lot of stress has come my way recently,I'm sure it hasn't helped.I also suffer from psoriasis, which means I have to wear clothes that cover, cable knits and shorts in summer are not fun, lol.Anyway I'm sorry not to address rosacea and T,I can however share what my doctors doing, and my own self help which has helped a bit.I'm on 1000mg of erythromycin a day, taken about 6000 so far stopped for 24 hours due to bad side effects, dizziness, and terrible stomach discomfort aggravating my ibs.I have cut out histamine rich foods, reduced sugars ie just honey now, eating more oats, blueberries for anti oxidants, turmeric in my herbal tea.Anyway I really understand how upsetting this can all be and I'm happy to chat and share etc :-).Petra.

Hello Petra, thank you for joining Susan's and for posting.  I am sorry to hear about your skin condition, I can imagine that is frustrating and hope there is a solution that works well for you.  If you can introduce yourself in the Introductions forum, it's also possible a member might spot your post and has additional advice based on similar experiences with Roacea.

Jacqui provided some information we always send to new members, it's the post immediately before yours so I won't re-post it here.  We are careful to avoid specific dosages for hormones (and you didn't list those) - details are in Terms of Service section 8.

With side effects you mentioned from the antibiotics I assume you are contacting your doctor right now as a followup.  If your condition worsens or does not improve it is possible you may need to seek urgent care.

All the best,

Kendra

Hi Petra,

If you have overdosed on erythromycin I suggest you call an ambulance or visit an ED. The side effects can be significant .
