I want to know what are the effects of hrt on lasik surgery on the eyes

If someone did lasik before the hrt does her vision reduce or not


I read that the result of lasik surgery are not that successful on patients who are on hrt comparing to those who don't take hrt

Is this true ?

If girl want do lasik when the best to do the surgery before or after hrt or it does not matter ?

I would wait a good 5-10 years on HRT before considering lasik. HRT can drastically change your prescription, which must be stable long-term for lasik to be successful.

When you say HRT, does this mean birth control pills or Premarin + Provera? Double check because not all HRT is the same. If you are taking bio-identical estrogen non-orally, then really, you are no different than a ciswoman not on HRT. Adding a progestin to the mix may perhaps change things. Discuss this with the experts and be sure to differentiate between different HRTs. 

13 yrs on HRT, my eyesight barely changed.

I would suspect if you already have near perfect vision, HRT wouldn't affect your eyes much if any. However for those of us with less than perfect vision and in my case, far from perfect, it can cause vision shifts. I would recommend waiting 5 years after starting on HRT and if you vision doesn't shift, get your eyes corrected. If your vision shifts, then it would be best to wait until you go 2-3 years and your prescription doesn't need a corrections. Funny thing is my eyesight really went bad on Testosterone but Estrogen seems to be restoring my eyesight.

It could absolutely change.

Vision can waver from 20/20 after lasik even in patients who aren't on HRT.

Estrogen has an effect on the shape of the cornea. Vision may change but it will still be better than it was before lasik, most likely.

I'd say go for it asap, don't wait. You can enjoy perfect vision until 40s, then your eye sight would start to deteriorate towards near sightedness. So 5 yrs is a lot of time missed enjoying...

Now, lasik is correctable. So, if in 5 yrs your eye sight changes (due to HRT, or by itself) - and you no longer enjoying it, additional correction would be easy and cheap.

Wow, I did not know that HRT had such an effect on the eyes. I don't mean to hijack the thread with this question or anything, but does it have any impact, positive or negative, on progressive astigmatism?

My astigmatism has gotten better over the years. I still have it but my coke bottle glasses aren't as thick as before. Fortunately modern plastics have helped the glasses even more.

Eye sight might deteriorate over time after lasik for a number of reasons. There's some thought that HRT _might_ be one of them.

Unlike PRK or Lasek, standard Lasik procedure is easy to follow up with subsequent corrections. So, I'd rather not worry too much about what happens down the road.

PS I had a -12/-10 and chose to have PRK. My eyesight downshifted from 25/20 to 20/25 over 2-3 years, but stabilized there. No major hrt (although I played a little with them birth control pills, but it happened after my vision downgraded). I'm quite ok with the results as they are, and again with PRK it's not so easy to follow up, nor do I have much room after such a massive correction in the first place.

So, I know a little what I am talking about.
