Has anybody else noticed that the Susan's spellchecker considers all these misspellings?

Anybody want to add to the list? :)

  •

Dani

Yes and many drug names are also on the misspelled list. How do we add words to the spellchecker?
  •

Dena

Susan's doesn't have a spell checker. When you enter in a field with your web browser, you use the spell checker on your own computer. What is in the software is a forbidden word checker. You can post a forbidden word on the site but when the post is displayed, a proper word will be displayed. There is a configuration setting that bypasses this feature and that's why you get a nasty gram from a moderator even though you can't see the foul word you initially set. Our problem is there are so many variations on foul words that they aren't all entered in the checker so we still need to eyeball violations.

Mine doesn't flag them all because I have done the "Add to dictionary" selection for those not flagged.

The diction does flag a lot of word but it will learn if you add those to it. So check your spelling the add it to the dictionary if it ts correct.

You can still add it to your dictionary if you like it that way

Let's just agree to disagree. :)

Although, I do have Merriam-Webster on my side:

LOL   Ahhhh yes. You asked that age old question. like I do when I'm not sure.

"What would Merriam Webster Say?"

That works for you and I Jane, but I fear not for the younger set who are adding newly invented text slang and emojis and who knows what to the language daily or sometime it seems hourly. It happens so fast us dinosaurs cannot keep up. But to be fair We did our share of language mutilation when we were young too. And so has every youthful generation.
And you can look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls!

Talking about new inventions...Can anyone explain what the heck a meme is to me?

Many moons ago I did look at the spell checker that comes with the software that we run the place on. Of course Australians or rather all non-USA-ians, looking at Spellcheckers running on USA Software just end up laughing and thinking 'How; just how is it possible that such a great and awesome country can't spell?' and then give up and use the Australian Macquarie Dictionary as do all civilised people

I'd try that but do Australians even speak English? will I be able to read the words?

As an English speaker, I tend to use the Oxford Dictionary which spells transsexual with the double s. Various top level medical organisations such as the APA also spell it with a double s.

A single s is linguistically  and grammatically incorrect - assuming you are speaking English.

My version of the OED shows that transsexual is certainly the preferred spelling but transexual and trans-sexual are also acceptable.

Don't you love consistency across the board. I still insist that those spellings that differ from mine are nothing more than alternate facts even if they are documented.

"Consistency" in reference to the English language should never be used in the same sentence!

I've mostly always seen it spelled with double 's' ... but if dictionaries recognize multiple uses then cheers, yet another variation... not as though it's the most confusing thing in the language and its variations. Okay, so not to be a sneaker but I'm off to pick up new trainers, perhaps a gamble w/chips to have enough for crisps, forgetting about fries for now.  :D
