I have worked in hospitals for many years. Hospitals do not allow any employee to have fake nails because bacteria and fungus do grow under the nails and it becomes a health issue.
If your real problem is splitting nails, it might be caused by vitamin deficiencies. Any good daily vitamin with mineral supplement should help. Harsh chemicals are another cause of splitting nails. Avoid contact or use gloves to prevent contact with your nails.
Diet can have some effects. You can grow and maintain strong, healthy nails by consuming foods rich in biotin. Eat cauliflower, soybeans, lentils, bananas, fish, egg yolks, whole grains, cereal, and milk products.
What I am saying is treat the problem properly. Do not cover it up.
