Ok, i'm stumped. I've tied to look for people who could remove the heir down below so I can start preparing for surgery. But I don't have a clue as to how to find these people. I would ask the ladies who are working on my face, but though they do bikini lines I don't think they have had experience with this sort of thing.

any clues on how to find these kinds of people?

as far as  um down there goes i just use a razor and keep it clean works very well . and i really dont have

to shave it very much

I only know about electrolysis, not about laser, but many electrologists who specialise in trans-people will do genital hair removal as well, though usually they charge more for it. Mine does and I would refer you to her - but unfortunately she's here in the UK. Sorry hon.

All I can suggest is that you trawl websites and go to support groups - the other people attending might be able to refer you. Also, my electrologist found her first clients by going to support group meetings and handing out business cards. I'd imagine at least a few would do the same.

This is a subject that I had not even thought about until I went to my support group a few months ago and the subject came up. Shaving is no good if you are preparing for SRS. The skin of the penis is inverted to make the Vagina. hairs that were growing on the penis will now grow inside the new vagina, OMG I do not want that, lol. All joking aside this is true, so there is as much a need for permanent hair removal down there as there is for facial hair removal. In fact it may be more important, laser up the you know what, ouch, lol. Get it done before, I intend to. I have also been advised to start this at least a year before surgery as there may still be regrowth. Electrolysis is the recommended method.

I mean it seems like the perfect place to actually laser. . .  that's about as much as I'm going to say before it becomes a way way TMI

Depending on your surgeon <and inreguardless of the surgeon IMHO> you need to have the hair down below, in certian areas removed peerminantly... laser might work, but you have to wait close to a year to see how perminant it actualy is...

My laser place is going to do mine... its not cheap and its supposedly quite painful... but sence ittle be years before Ill be able to afford surgery I figure ittle be better than electro... and I will electro what ever survives the IPL bombardment  XD

Well, if you want a hair-free vagina, genital electrolysis is imperative.  Dr. Meltzer recommends that one clear the shaft all the way to the base and the back of the scrotum, like these diagrams:

It all depends on the surgeon you use.  Some, like Meltzer apparently, want you to get rid of a lot; others, like Chettawut, only want you to do the perineum (there are pictures on his site).  So... yeah.  Depends on the technique of the surgeon what they want removed.

Many of the surgeons no longer require electrolysis in the genital area.  I know in my case for example, Dr Brassard doesn't require any hair removal prior to surgery.  He asks where you would like the hair to be after the surgery was complete and for me the resulting hair pattern left was just as I wanted it.  Usually these days the surgeon will surgically remove any hair and follicles during SRS, so I would recommend that you contact any prospective surgeons and consult with them before you embark on a painful and expensive endeavor.

Oh goddess I hope you are right Steph! I wasn't looking forward to the pain of the procedure to either me or my wallet. But I also heard that they can't get all of the follicles during surgery, has anyone else been told this?

I have not had any problems with hair re-growth at all.  I can guarantee that Brassard doesn't require hair removal, Bowers, doesn't and several of the Thai surgeons don't.

Ooops I stand corrected, thanks for the post and link Natasha.  However, when I spoke with her, she said the same thing and emphasized that it wasn't really necessary.  As I mentioned I'm over a year post-op and I have not had any hair re-growth, and none was detected when a routine internal was conducted a few months back.

I never had genital hair removal by either electrolysis or Laser.

Dr Suporn takes the Scrotum and uses ultrasound to losen the hairs/ roots and then they are removed one by one.

6 years on I have never had any issues with in-growing / vaginal hairs.

august 2007.  she won't force you to have genital hair removal but she highly recommends it.
