Greetings from Lake Placid NY !! 
This is my overdue introduction of myself.  I thought that my stay here would be very short but I now think that I may just stick around indefinately. You see, I do still have a lot to learn. I am amazed and impressed by the wealth of knowledge and caring that you folks freely share here,,,,,,the things that you folks discuss are pretty much a mind-blower to me and yet ya do it with style too. Kudos & Karma to you all.

Ok, so: I am a mountain climber, a schitty back-country skier, a kayaker, a dog lover. In summer I live off the grille, watch a campfire every nite instead of tv and slap/swear at the endless fricken' bugs on my deck. I am 50 yrs old, pretty homely, straight as an arrow, married 27 yrs, own a Ford and a Chevy and I am as boring & plain vanilla as anyone ever was - YAWN...

I am also the proud father of a transsexual man. He's 25, still a snotty kid - smart but lazy, and I'm just crazy about him. He's in SanFran, I'm in the Adirondacks. He's just finally 'clued' me into the fact that he is a transman and has told me his name. Ahhh, what a difference in our relationship, so much BETTER.  He is so much happier, confident, at peace.  I firmly believe that my kid is about to arrive!

3 wks ago I was the clueless parent. I joined this site and read a lot, checked out lots of what I read here on other sites also. I kept coming back here tho.  Friendly, helpful, open, and accepting. A nice place to visit and an even nicer place to join and RE-visit.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice. The cluelessparent has evolved into the ProudFather.

Sorry for the late intro, but as you can see: I'm pretty boring and I didn't see any hurry in pointing it out!

I remember someone referring to you as "Has-a-clue parent". I'm still laughing about it. You do have a clue, maybe two. You son is lucky. I have also enjoyed your posts and hope you continue.

I was looking for TS/TG information about a year ago and found this site. I did also encounter about 6 other sites that claimed to be TS support sites but I liked the people here and I found myself coming back here over and over. After a few weeks I didn't even go to those other sites at all. I have found many threads that interest me. I have really enjoyed books and movies and TV shows recommended by members that I would never have heard of. I hang out here almost every day.

One of the reasons this site is so good (in my opinion) is that Susan and the staff run a very tight ship. That means that if I see a post I consider inappropriate or a little too vulgar it is gone within minutes.

Hi Not-so-Clueless-Parent,

A bit of knowledge goes a long way so I am glad you are going to stick arround. I have heard a lot of horror stories about parents (mine is not one of them) so any parent taking the time to learn is very wellcome here.

By seeking some knowledge I you have proved you are not clueless.

Hey "Proud Father"!

You are not as boring as you think!  I too enjoy many of the same things you do.

Let's line them up....

-  Backpacking
-  Hang gliding
-  Local hiking
-  Following my hubby around when he goes fishing (I don't like to fish).  I love to eat them though.
-  Dogs.   I don't know what life would be without my canine friends.
-  Living off the grill in the summer!
-  Staying out all night long star gazing
-  Camping
-  Proud Chevy truck owner
-  I live in the woods

I could say that I lead a very boring life.  I see real people only a couple days a week when hubby comes home from work.  He lives in another city where he works and comes home on weekends.  That is when we will drive into our tiny little town go get a bite to eat at the local eatery.

So... could I say that my life is more boring than yours?  Yup.  But I won't because my life is freaking fabulous!

I'm glad that you are here.  I really am.  We don't want anything special.  We just want people to understand.  I am thrilled for you and your son.  You both have breezed over one of the biggest hurdles we face in our lives.  I still struggle with members of my family and it has been over twenty years already!

Personally I think that you are a shining example for other parents who find themselves in your situation.  Many of the problems and issues we encounter with families could be avoided or lessened if more parents expressed their love for their children as you have done here at Susan's.  There are many tragic stories here where parents have taken the easy way out, bowed to the pressures of society and abandoned and disowned their children.

I'm certainly glad that you are staying around.

Its so great that you fully support your son on his journey to find happiness.

I was without my familys support from the day I came out to them and it took 6 years and the death of my Mother until my Father spoke to me again. We are now best friends and have a relationship, like we never had as Father and Son.

That means a lot to me personally and I know how important it is to your Son.

You are a welcome addition to Susan's and provide hope for many people.

Maybe a name like "Rather Enlightened" is more in order.  You are quite a guy.  Seems to me like you have grabbed life by the tail and taken control and have not forgotten to bring love, the love that multiplies with it.

In that regard you are about as plain vanilla as rock road ice cream.

I pray the best things in this life be yours and your son's, and that your spirit rubs off on many others.

     I'm so glad to hear that you have accepted your son for who he is.  Mine have done that for me and I thought I was one of the lucky ones.  I wonder if I can get my parents to get on here?  You and them have a lot in comon.  Thanks for taking the time to learn about these issues.  I hope that in the future there will be more parents like you around.  It helps the person out so much when they have someone close to them that is willing to understand and accept. On second thought, I better not, I've put some pretty personal stuff in here and they already know my name.  I wonder what they would say if they knew about some of my thoughts. LOL Don't think I could get away with giving them advice with out them knowing it was me either. hehehe  Anyway, I'm glad that you are here and please feel free to chime in whenever you need to know something or just want to talk.  We are all more than willing to help.  This is a very good site to be a member of.  Once again, welcome!
