I'm hoping it's not too late for me since I do not want to wear a wig.  I'm investigating hair replacement for a feminine hairline.  This would be a 16k procedure, so damn if it is expensive!  Can you tell me your experience and expectations?  I have blondish hair, and thin.

Many clinics will give a free initial consultation. There is FUE and FUT each has its merits, but ask them straight what is possible,  and how many procedures might be required. In the meantime,  Finasteride and Minoxidil are a good starter for ten!

Thanks Megan.  I'm setting up a consultation. I'll post what I learn.

I might be worth it depending on a few things.  Would it give you more confidence?  Confidence is one of the biggest factors in passing.  Also, hormones may not regrow hair.  My hairline stopped dead in its tracks with receding but has not regrown after a year with hrt.

It's definitely worth looking into but you should explore all of your options before surgery. I had heavy thinning happening before I started finasteride last January and hormones a few months later. I haven't had 100% recovery but I'm back to a full head of hair and growing it out finally. I used a combination of the hormones, minoxidil, micro-needling, a high quality restorative shampoo and vitamins to help kickstart things.
Up and away and off I go to lose my mind and find my soul.

Rambler are you able to pm me before and after?  My doctor isn't convinced that finesteride will do anything, but if it does, I want it!  What is micro needling?

I can definitely recommend Finasteride.  I started on the low dose version for hair loss back in January and it halted the receding hair line I was suffering from.  After four or five months there was a small amount of regrowth which has really increased since I started using the high dose version in July as an anti-androgen

I'm not sure how much help it is on hair that was lost a long time ago but for areas that have recently suffered loss, it definitely worked for me

My Dr. suggested finasteride. I went home and did my online research. The next time I visited him I asked for a prescription and I am happy with the early results.

With Ramblers excellent breakdown she sent me, my doctor has prescribed it to me.  I'll start tonight, so excited!

I'm continuing the thread.  I had a skype meeting with a hair restoration surgeon.  He thinks he can restore my hairline to have a feminine shape, and doesn't think finasteride will help those areas on me.  I'm close to pulling the trigger, but damn is it expensive.  I need a push or lifeline ladies..,

Would some pictures of mine help?? I love my new hair...looking at yours I started with similar maybe even a bit less...but myself a brand new style which I will share soon...

Is this follicle by follicle insertion? If so that is what I had...much depends on the skill of your surgeon/specialist.

I would prefer to do FUE.  I'm checking with the doctor now.

You mean the strip of hair removed and dissected...(I can never remember which is which)...or the one when they use a probe to extract and then insert  a follicle. I had the strip from the head dissected and then implanted in single and double units...

I was wanting the other variety.  The doctor is recommending the strip method like you had though.  He's saying the yield of viable hair is better, and he's able to do more in one session.  Both methods will result in scarring he says, it's really how you plan on your hairstyles.  If you want super short, you need FUE as you will see the linear scar.  But then you might be able to see the dots all over from the other method too.  I want hair much like Megan James, so I think strip will be fine.  Putting in the deposit in the morning.

To be honest I can't actually see any scarring on my head...its probably there but covered with a mass of hair now...I did not lose a single implant that I could tell...they will all die off after a short period as the new growth comes in for the first time....this in many cases needs to break through the skin but the sebum continues to be produced without anywhere to escape...when the hair finally erupts through the scalp they are pretty gross and messy...but each one is a hair coming in so you really want this to keep happening, not all of them will do it but after this process stops for awhile you pretty much know there is no more to come through...Good luck

I put a deposit down. My surgery date is day after Thanksgiving weekend.  I'm looking forward to this, scared of it, scared of myself after it.  I need it though.
