Hi everyone! First, thanks to all for being so supportive! This site is a godsend! So anyway, ive only been on HRT since Thursday, but I noticed something... Unusual... Yesterday, & I'm not sure if it's related or not...  throughout the day I kept feeling an almost pleasurable feeling "down there," but kinda... Inside. Almost like something from my prostate. Only lasted a second or 2, but happened 8 or 10 times... Anyone experienced this? I've had urinary retention issues for a while (I take Flomax for it), but my doc thought it had to do with long term opiate use/methadone, as a prostate exam turned out normal... Oh, & I'm 33 if that helps. Thanks in advance!

I think I might have had some sensations like that but it's hard to remember for sure. My first week on spiro I really felt like I was dieing. I had to sleep pretty much anytime I wasn't at work and when I was at work all I wanted to do was sleep. Now that my body is used to the HRT though it's great because I need less sleep than pre-HRT.

Really? We're you taking estrogen & Spiro to start or just Spiro? My endo put me on both to start, & I feel very lucky that I've had an overall positive experience w/ them. I feel terrific for a few hours after taking them, gives me a slight euphoric feeling & energy, & I'm very talkative. Perhaps it's not so bad for me cuz my testosterone levels were lower than normal, one of the side effects of methadone... Or perhaps it's because I just started on 9/15.

The lower testosterone is a possible reason you aren't feeling the spiro as much. You might also be on different doses. I've always had a lot of testosterone so going from that to next to nothing was pretty miserable along with having to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes because of the spiro. My doctor also probably gave me higher doses than most start on since he just looked at the instruction and picked a number in the middle of the ranges.

Ah I see. It's hard to tell if I'm going to the bathroom more often, I already have urinary issues (frequency & retention caused by long term opiate use), which I take Flomax for. Wish we could discuss our actual dosages on here, I find pharmacology fascinating & im curious why some get higher/lower doses than others. I also wonder why some start on just spiro. I posted my dosages a few days ago (I'm new to this site & didn't realize it was against the rules) & I was warned not to do it again or I may be banned... Oops! Lol

Yea it is a wonderful feeling! I feel more feminine too, but I think that's just a mental, placebo-ish effect. I seem to get the pleasant feelings with every dose. I am in a methadone clinic & I usually take my estro & spiro 30 mins after dosing, reason being that I thought since methadone slows the digestive system down maybe I'd absorb more of the HRT meds, as the bioavailability of estro is rather low (oral:5℅, sublingual:25℅). Anyway, the combination of meds may contribute to the good feeling I get.

Just curious, does the estrogen make either of you FEEL more feminine? Like I said to mako it does me, but I think it's a placebo-ish effect...

I'm not sure I can say I FEEL more feminine, but my anger issues from PTSD has subsided considerably. I no longer need anti-depressants or anxiety medication, and even with the very minor physical changes I've had in these 2 months, I can look in a mirror and feel better about myself because of them. The already softer skin on my face is noticeable enough that at least to me it gives me a more feminine appearance from the rough, oily skin I always had due to not being able to care for my skin when deployed. As for the differences in dosage, a lot of it depends on your body. Everybody reacts to medication differently. Two people with identical hormone levels might not have the same results on the same medication. I have my follow-up appointment in just under a month and that's where I find out if my medication needs adjusted. The dosages you start out on are purely based on experience of the doctor and the studies he or she has read. As I said before, my doctor just looked at the instruction he has from the military for accepted dosages and he picked a number in the middle. I had some control over that decision as well as I chose estradiol patches over pills or shots as I knew it would be a more consistent dosage and I've read many of the same studies the doctors make their decisions off of and many of them state that the patches are less harmful to the liver and less prone to cause internal bleeding.
