I had an unusual experience as week. It was fun, interesting and confusing most of all. So... my girlfriend was on her period and was about to use her last pad. Also, we were low on painkillers. This woudn't be a problem normaly, but she realized that minutes before she had to leave for work. She was going to come back late, at about 3am, and every store would be closed by then.

I couldn't leave her alone, withouth pads and pills, so I decided to go shopping for her. She was busy at her job and I wasn't able to ask her for instructions. We usually talk about these issues, and gave me a few tips, just in case. So, I went to the drugstore. First with the easy part, the painkillers. Plain ibuprofen, 600 or 800. No weaker version for girls on their period. Then, the hard part....picking a pack of menstrual pads... There were so many types and brands, that there was a special section, only for pads. I have a very big problem when it comes to making decisions, so I almost collapsed when I realized I had to choose only one. Then I remembered my girlfriend's words: "with wings" and "they are all the same, pick up the cheapest ones". Those things saved me from running away withouth the pads.

I relaxed a bit and took a moment to compare prices. Only then I realized I looked like a regular ciswoman buying things for when she's on her cicle. I had a box of painkillers and was looking at the pads. People might have thought "she's on her period, she's bleeding out of her genitals and must have a nasty mood". Funny thing, knowing that I have no uterus nor ovaries. I pass most of the time, so I never considered people noticing they were looking at a trans girl. A woman with a girl passed by me, also looking for pads. They didn't give me any strange look.

After a few minutes I managed to pick one type and brand. With pads and painkillers in my hand, I went to the cashier. I thought she would notice my purchase and give me a "You're on your period" look, but I was attended by a male cashier, I guess that thought didn't even cross his mind. We exchanged bills, and I walked out of the drugstore, glorious, after succesfully buying menstrual pads and painkillers.

Most girls have to go through this every month, with nasty cramps and blood leaking from their bodies. My experience was a lot friendlier, and a bit fun. I got most of the things right, except for the size. I got regular sized pads, while my partner preferes the extra thin ones. I still saved her from reusing an old pad, or having to use a ball of cotton. I'll do it better next time!

Hey Lis! I just saw your post, and thought it's a bit mean that no-one replied. So at the risk of "bumping" - good job girl! I'd be wracked with dysphoria if I had to go and buy pads for a cisgirl. I eagerly await the day in the future when I can blend in as well as you. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Liz 🙋🏼 What a great girlfriend you are.  I think it's something all transgender women would
love / hate having to do this for themselves.

I had been doing this for my wife for years before transitioning. Now that I pass (more or less) I love it when its on the grocery list, as it makes for an extra security layer against getting "clocked." My wife (and daughter now) have me well trained, so I know exactly which brand (same for both,) thickness, style (shape,) and scented or not. I only run into trouble if one of the two boxes is out of stock. LOL

HUGS!

Thanks for the bump Jenny! It seems that trans girls buy more menstrual pads than I had thought. I'd love to hear more experiences.

Tbh, I intend to carry tampons and pads in my purse. That way, if anyone needs one when I happen to be in the bathroom, I can lend a helping hand. :)

I want to find some weird gross super organic, old school hippie version of a tampon and just hand those out.

Those pads come in handy during summer, when we tend to sweat a lot. Normally, I'll have a small box laying around for that purpose. It came as a bit of a surprise to my step dad's sister, when she was leaking, and asked for a pad, and then said "oh, never mind". I handed her a pad, and blew her mind. For a couple weeks, she acted like I was her best friend.

Years ago when my daughter was a teenager she had called or texted me that she was out of tampons and asked if I would get her some when I got off work.  I worked at Disneyland and got off around 11pm.

Anyway, I went to one of the local grocery stores and started looking for tampons and they had some that were "Club" discounted and if you bought more you received even greater savings.

So, being as frugal as I am and thinking that she'll eventually use them I bought 10 boxes of those tampons that have the neon look to them and are enclosed in plastic.  And I tried to walk with them up to the cashier holding them which was no easy task.

After fumbling them and getting them to cashier, the cashier who was a guy says, "You can't buy these after midnight from now on".

Ha ha.

Ha ha.

I understand why he said that. They typically stock after midnight and they like to not have to stock again shortly after that. lol
