My 6 month followup with Dr. Gabel went well!

I had my 6 month checkup with Dr. Gabel, the wizard that corrected my receding hairline.  He was about as amazed as I was with how fast and full it was coming in with almost no donor area scarring!  A true artist in my opinion.  I basically had a full head of hair at 3 months post-op.  And he said to expect another 20 or 30% more regrowth by the 1 year...  Highly pleased with his work!  So much in fact that I volunteered the use of my pictures, and the video interview for him to use, unrestricted.

For me, that's a highly unusual decision... I don't usually care for my pictures to be floating around on the internet.  However, the work he did was so impressive that I actually wanted everyone to be able to see his work.  Unrestricted, no facial blurring or blacked out eyes.  I had a very difficult time deciding on a surgeon due to not being able to see exactly how the hairline complimented their face.  He basically designed mine for me, because I barely had a clue as to what would be flattering.

But long story short, I believe in the man's ability so much that I decided to give everything.  And something I didn't know before I went to him, he actually co-authored the transgender hair restoration chapter in the medical texts.  So you all will probably be seeing my before and afters floating around... don't be shocked by my no makeup face.

I urge everyone to check around, but he is amazing.  He does a lot of work with Trans people in his office, as well as lecturing at Trans seminars... I don't think his name is passed around enough due to the high level of annonymity we as a cummunity generally prefer.  I actually found him on a Male Hairloss forum...  He had several reviews as being one of the top hair surgeons in the country, and I'm inclined to agree.

I had quite the "crap-tastic" hairline when we started...  I wasn't sure it could be filled back in.

He urged me to wait on the crown, and do the temples.  He told me that the Finasteride and Hormones will do quite a bit for me... So we went ahead and he filled in that horrible "M".

At my 3 month, it was looking pretty good!

And 6 months post-op, my hairdresser couldn't tell the difference... Other than it's shorter than the rest..

Eventhough it's shorter than my other hair, you can't see through to my scalp anymore..

His pictures will be better than mine, but that's what I'm talking about.  And it was pretty much gone all over too... Luckily my crown is growing back with the help of Hormones, and Finasteride...

I'm watching my crown closely... but he was correct, it did come back and worked quite well for me.  So he was right on both accounts!

Wow, those are awesome results. If you don't mind me asking, what office did you go to (if it matters) and how much was it?

I went to the Gabel Hair Restoration Center in Hillsboro, OR. In my case, it was around $12,000. I needed a lot of hair. Over 3100 grafts. That's a lot of hair to be placed by hand in 1 sitting. Money well spent.

WOW Harley,

The difference is amazing and it really looks good. More shocking for me though is that is sounds like you are just down the street if you are near or in Hillsboro and never told me. I'm crushed.  LOL

It does look real good Harley. Congrats on the transformation.

Hugs,

Well, thank you.  I don't live in, or close Hillsboro.  I picked Dr. Gabel because he is one of the best, and I made the 180 mile commute to have him perform the surgery.  I live further north, up near Seattle.

Ahhh okay. Still sort of in the neighborhood by my reckoning.  I'm not sure when you snuck down here but had I known we may have been able to connect for lunch or coffee somewhere. You were less that 25 miles away.

Maybe next time unless you have other people to visit while in town.

I made it down to my 1 year followup with Dr. Gabel.  Looking good on this end.  I should have experience another 20 to 30% more regrowth on my temples according to Dr. Gabel.  I have no clue where all the hair is going to come from, but I'm excited.  My hair is already quite thick and I'm totally in love what he did with my hairline.  I should have some new photos shortly.  We did a new set of pictures and another short interview.  I'll post the link once it goes up.  :)

That's awesome.  I'm so glad it's working out.  Because of your courage in going and sharing.  I'm also seeing Dr Gabel next month.  You have much better hair than me for this, but I'm hopeful!
