We at Planet of the Blind received the following e-mail from the Society for Disability Studies. The post is by Professor Warren J. Blumenfeld of the Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  Since the intersection of disability rights and all human rights is not far from our thoughts I wanted to share Dr. Blumenfeld's post with our readers. We do so with his kind permission.

Each year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) tracks incidents of hate crimes throughout the United States. It reported in 2006, the most recent of its reports, 7,722 criminal incidents involving 9,080 offenses "as a result of bias against a particular race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity/national origin, or physical or mental disability." (U.S. Department of Justice, 2006).
