Just North of Calgary and in my late fifties. I have been suppressing my dysphoria since early teens, it came to a head a few years ago.
Earlier this year I found a TG friendly GP who started me on Spiro and sent a referral for an appointment with an endocrinologist . Of course the endo came back looking for a psychiatric assessment, even though I had gone the psychologist route for a couple of years. I've been waiting over 6 months to even get an appointment for the psychiatrist and still no word. I had booked an appointment for Monday to see if there was an informed consent route through the clinic.
Today I get a letter from my GP saying they are leaving the province at the end of the month. Now I feel like I've fallen even further behind. Has anyone tried any out of province options? If I travel to BC or into the bordering states is it possible to get a prescription? Can anyone recommend a Dr that can do informed consent in Southern Alberta, the most commonly mentioned one is not talking to new patients?

I can't help with informed consent options but if you can get to Red Deer, Dr. Marshall (gender psychiatrist) currently has a wait time of less than 3 months. I'm headed down there from Edmonton this week for my first appointment. My GP sent the referral in at the end of August.
Good luck!

Hi Ashlee,
Not sure if you will see this but I figured I would update after my appointment with Dr Marshall's office today. My first appointment was an hour long interview with his nurse where we discussed everything from educational background to social supports as well as mental health and gender identity and expression. They also gave me a carry card stating that I am trans in case I am challenged anywhere. In the new year (about 2-3 months), I will meet with Dr. Marshall himself and at that point we will discuss endo referrals and referrals for top surgery. Apparently the wait times for those specialists are much shorter in Red Deer than in Calgary or Edmonton.
Good luck!
