My sister's son, 5 years old, asked me today if I am trying to grow a beard. I said yes. It is so simple for kids. If you feel like a guy, you are a guy. If you feel like a girl, you are a girl.

I wish it was so simple for all people to accept the fact that you can be transgender.

A lifetime of depression and repressed emotions is nothing more than existence. I for one want to live now not just exist!

Gosh, I wish it was so simple for me. My 6 year old misgenders me on purpose and calls me disgusting. I think a lot of that has to do with his mother but it still hurts. Some days it's ok but I can't get him to see me all the time.  :'(

My sister always tells me it's mind over matter..........if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.  Yeah, I know, I don't laugh at that one very often either but somehow it rings true...especially with kids.

My 4 year old knows that the doctor made me a girl that I was a boy and calls me a girl. If someone try to correct her she just tells them my dady is a girl. We are working with my ex on changing what she calls me from papa to momsy.

Excuse me for living

That is so sad. Using children as messengers in a fight. Kids should be left out of it.

Hi EvaMarie

Welcome to Susans

That is pretty awful to have your child do that to you. I hope you are able to change that so you don't keep getting hurt.

Kids have wide open perspectives, in general... and they have imaginations. The field of view gets smaller and smaller as we age and we see less and less except things we have categorized and assume to be the way we categorized them. I can still remember how vivid an imagination I had as a kid; bothers me that the "seriousness" of adulthood overtakes and stifles it. I was never bored as a kid. I could amuse myself with just about anything because things could be looked at in different ways. Doesn't surprise me that many kids don't see gender as this wall or box you have to be in or else. They see it for sure, of course - they recognize the difference between men and women or boys and girls visually, but they usually have no hangups about it, or about not being able to easily tell the difference sometimes.

My 5 year old step daughter gets it.  She sees me wearing a skirt and says "Oooh I like your skirt daddy!"  And we've explained to her what it means to be transgender.  So she likes to put head bands on me and things and try to make me look "pretty".  It is so nice when kids are just so open and loving and not closed off to things like that yet, because the world has not yet programmed them.  How great would it be if we could prevent the hateful programming before it ever happens.  How much greater of a world would we be living in.
