Have been on finasteride for over 2 years now.  Have noticed slower growth of leg and body hair.  Have not had any noticeable regrowth of head hair or noticeable breast growth.

Was just on this 3 weeks ago and it caused me crazy problems. Lucky I didn't get post finasteride syndrome. I had to get off it right away! Im working on others ways to block the dht and reverse any bits of thinning. It was not working much for me anyways.

That's sucks Larrisa. I've been on it for my entire time on HRT. I have not had any issues. It really did seem to help the back of my head thicken up. My peaks on each side of the front have new short hairs growing at the hairline. I also can see the thin colorless peach fuzz growing in those areas. It gives me hope that maybe one day those thin hairs will get heavier and turn dark.

There's been a lot of talk about how finasteride and duteraside work and the reason for the side effects. Most people seem to believe the depression is caused by a drop in the brain chemical allopregnalone. A couple of other things might effect how much finasteride might affect someone. One being the presence of bioidenticle progesterone. If you are not taking this then your brain must produce enough for the base chemical to make allopregnalone out of. If you are taking it your bloodstream may have enough to prevent negative finasteride symptoms. Another factor is the brains signaling for the chemical precursors for it. One of those signals is Sertraline. Again it might be in my case being on Sertraline (Zoloft) may help prevent the negative side effects of finasteride.
I'd stay far away from duteraside as it blocks all a5-reductase production not just some like finasteride does.

A lifetime of depression and repressed emotions is nothing more than existence. I for one want to live now not just exist!

This could be a result of estrogen dominance. I would talk to your doctor about adding micronized progesterone. Whether cycled or every day use. It will balance out the E dominance and will possibly help with the dry skin quite a bit if that is indeed the culprit of the problem. Lip Balm & Petroleum Jelly are great for moisturizing our lips. It's always a good idea to take care of our skin.

In my experience, a little testosterone was much more effective than progesterone to counter dry skin experienced with estrogen.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005

I can second that. I do notice progesterone helps though, but when I reduced my T Blockers I noticed my skin clear up as well, but then went back to my original dosages and started cycling P instead. It does help.
