I have learned that I could potentially be in a beneficial situation. My dad was told he is being considered for a position at his company in New York (I live in Mass) and we could be moving for next year. This would give me a fresh start at a new school making it easier for me if I come out. I am thinking it would be good for me because I could come out end of this school year and then spend a few months transitioning over vacation and when I start somewhere I will not only have started transitioning but I will also be able to change the types of people that I hang out with. I just don't know if a move is a good time to be telling my parents something like this but I am kind of excited for the potential opportunity. Also, call me selfish but it might mean that my grandparents aren't moving in and since my grandma tells everyone everything, it would make me more comfortable so I am really hoping everything goes right.

Britt116, sounds like a great opportunity to get a clean start at transitioning in a new location.

I am going to be moving next year and had much the same thought about using it as a chance for a new start, out in the open. I think it's a great idea.

As for talking to your parents, while you may worry that during something like this would be a bad time, the truth is I'm not sure there ever is a "good" time. I mean, obviously you don't turn to your left during a funeral and say "Oh, by the way, I'm transgender.", but pretty much aside from any extreme examples the time that is right is the time that works for you, regardless of other circumstances. When I came out to my father and then step mother, they were both very busy and stressed dealing with some major work stuff. But I also knew that even if I waited for that to be resolved, there would be something else. Then something else. Then something else again. That's just how life goes. The odds of finding that one, perfectly empty, not stressful moment that also aligns with your desire to come out is slim to none.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't been able to respond since I am recovering from a surgery but I guess I should stop waiting for a "perfect time" and just do it when it feels right.

Personally, a new start is something I'm very much looking forward to sometime in hopefully the near future. As many good memories as I have in the place I've lived most my life, a fresh start would very much be appreciated. I would prefer to be in a safer area, with friendly individuals that love to make friends. It's not impossible to make friends here, it's just there's a lot of crime in my area, and I don't exactly feel safe when I'm out. Especially in the evening hours. I would say that you are not wrong in being happy for something new. I would be.
