Hi all,

I recently came across an off site post that has to do with the RLE letter and one of the comments made me realize there's not a lot of information online on how to get a 1-year RLE letter for Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA to cover FFS. I've seen a couple of people ask the same question on ->-bleeped-<- already so I decided to post the questions here as well for visibility.

Does anyone have experience getting an RLE letter for BCBS of MA? What does the letter need to contain and, does it have to come from a therapist or could it be from a pcp, a psychologist, a school official, or a employer as well? Is there anything else  we should know? Many thanks!!

Best,
Yuna

I just finished getting surgery letters (orchiectomy, not FFS) at Fenway Health. BCBS MA  wants WPATH Standards, I required a letter from my primary care physician recommending the surgery, a letter from a therapist, and a letter from a psychologist. The PCP letter was free, each of the psych letters were done in separate sessions at $155 each. I ended up paying $120, or $60 per letter.

As to what it contains.....it says what the insurance company needs to hear. The therapist and psychologist take care of the wording. Honestly, mine didn't reflect my truth, but it got me the surgery I wanted.  :)

Hope this helps!

Hugs, Devlyn
