LJH24

I have been lurking for about 3 months now, ever since my son came out to me as a transgender woman.  I decided it was finally time to join, since he is most likely starting HRT today! (I am still referring to him as my son, because he has said he is not ready for me to start using feminine pronouns yet and has not decided on his new name.)  He has a doctor's appointment today to go over his baseline blood work from last week and we are hopeful that he will be getting a Rx today so that he can begin his transition.  I know I will have many, many questions as we start this journey and look forward to getting to know you all.

Laurie

 Hi LJH24

I'm Laurie an mtf individual myself.  I would like to welcome you and your son to the site and tell you that we have a forum for significant others that you may be interested in. There is also a forum for youth to share with other youths if he is under 18. We as moderators try to keep a close eye on both areas in order to make these as safe and friendly for those that use them. Others are not kept from posting supportive comments but like I said we want to provide these areas mainly for those who fit the categories so they can find the support they need from others in like situations. I hope both of you will come in and be at ease here.
I'll add some links and information below that can help you get more out of our site. Please take time to become familiar with them especially the RED one as we are always getting questions that are answered there.

Thanks Roll! I can't imagine letting my child go through something as important and life-altering as this without us supporting him.  We just want him to be happy and he hasn't been happy for a while. Which is why, even though I know that the HRT process can take several years, we are excited for him to finally start HRT.

Thank you, Laurie! I appreciate the information you posted! Is the verification process when I post something that will go away eventually?

I appreciate the information about a forum for family members. I will definitely check that out!  My son is 19, so too old for the youth group now.

Those two sentences made me cry. I wish everyone taking this journey could receive this kind of support from their family. It is a long journey and be prepared for a few bumps along the way, but with your support I'm certain everything will work out fine. I wish you the best of luck!

Megan.

Hi LJH24 [emoji4].

I'm a 40 y/o trans-woman in the UK.

Thank you for supporting your child in their journey. Something many here wish they could have had, so it means a great deal when we see it [emoji4]

If you've been lurking,  you hopefully know we're friendly and not too scary! But now you've said hello,  please ask questions; we may not always have answers,  but there is a lot of experience here to draw from.

I wish you and your child all the best.

Hi LJH, welcome to Susan's. It is wonderful the support you are offering your child. I am 45 mtf and just starting my transition (3 months HRT). I have not yet come out to my family (hopefully this will happen in January), and I can only hope they will be as supportive as you are. No matter our age, children always look to their parents for support.

Ask as many questions as you like. There is always someone here that will be able to provide the answers you are seeking.
