Creating Change: Bickering Only Blocks Our Progress

Several themes overlapped at the 20th annual Creating Change Conference in Detroit, from which I wrote my Feb. 15 column. Some of us tend to either forget or ignore many of these, unfortunately. The LGBT community (and yes, we should view ourselves as one community) needs to address issues of racism, classism, equality and inclusion. To advance our cause, we need to work as a single, diverse community.

Unfortunately, people in general -- not just the LGBT community -- tend to look at ways of separating ourselves, using skin color, sexual orientation, gender and other criteria.
