While making a post on another topic I had a thought which has occured to me before.  I just never had a chance to post about it.

At many of my jobs I have found that one persons attitude can really make a huge difference in their co-workers attitudes.  At my previous job (semi-truck repair shop) I found that my attitude made a big difference in my coworkers.  Most days I was relatively happy, especially when I started HRT, but there were days when I was grouchy and would complain about this and that and the other thing.   Soon the guys would be mad and irritated for the next few days about everything, until the dark cloud blew over, so to speak.

Now that I am FT and can be myself at my job at the nursing home I am giddy most everyday.  When i have a bad day I try to vent somewhere else besides work and coworkers.  I don't want to spread around bad feelings at work as they seem to be infectious.

Hey Audrey,

I only work with one other person at my work at all times, so as you can imagine if one person is having a bad day, the other person normally just gets to hear about it and be stuck with them for 8 hours which is all so cruel lol.  I remember actually Saturday night I got stuck working with someone that was having a bad night.  I got so annoyed that by 6 hours in I just sent him home and said I'd do everything by myself.  So yes, I think that a persons mood can affect the way others work.  Bringing your problems to work is never really a good thing to do, but I mean everyone has done it from time to time, it's only human of course.

I adopt the same attitude, and I find it really does work. Being obliviously friendly usually has people smiling by the time you leave the checkout counter, or after five minutes in the office kitchen, or wherever. And you are right - it works in the other direction as well. I work as a carer ( my boss has MS) so we work very closely together, and if he's in a bad mood, I can actually feel it dragging me down, and I have to work that much harder at it to overcome the vibe. Same thing with the rest of the office.

Yeah its kind of strange when someone puts out bad vibes.  It seems to be like a cloud that hangs around and if you keep feed ing it a storm is on the way.

There are lots of books and magazine articles that talk about how a positive mental attitude can make a world of difference in how you and others perform in a day's work.

I recall a time when the company I was at was going through a lot of layoffs and cutbacks.  It was very depressing and I tended to take the depression home with me.

Then, finally, I got laid off and cheerfulled up.
