Have any of you ever gotten done/considered getting "breast" cancer gene testing done in order to maybe get a mastectomy paid for by none inclusive insurance?

My maternal Aunt had breast cancer. However my gyn Dr. Said that insurance wouldn't pay for me to get the test done because it wasn't my mother. I have considered paying for the test just in case.

I am curious what you guys thoughts are on it?
