I can't keep the pill under my tongue five minutes before I have a mouthful of blue saliva.  ;D

Just call me Drooling Dev.

Me being a rookie or rookiette, I did the under the tongue thing for both medications.  Took forever to disolve.  Not sure if that's the way or not.  In hindsight, I am looking forward to getting the injections instead.

I shove the pill up in my cheek and see how long I can retain it until it's dissolved. Sometimes it will stay there about an hour and a half while other days it last a little over half an hour. It seems to work reasonably well as on a half dose I am noticing changes to my face and my body.

I do the upper cheek and gum too a little forward where it seems to go up higher and I pretty much just forget about it. it will dislodge if I eat but otherwise it stays there until it dissolves and then it works it's way out with saliva but it takes awhile. btw the spiro just swallow.

Laurie,

Thanks for the tidbit.  I had both the Spiro and E under my tongue not at the same time but both under the tongue.  So, on the inside cheek works too?

Thx

I've been sort of wondering the same thing myself.  I started Estradiol and Spiro about 3 weeks ago now.  I just swallow the spiro,  but I put the E under my tongue and just let it hang out for a while.  Honestly, I usually just end up taking a drink of water to clear my mouth out after a few minutes.  It seems to take FOREVER to fully dissolve.  It doesn't taste bad or anything, so I guess it's fine - but I've been having the, "am I doing this right?" playing in my head every morning hahaha.  I feel like it's starting to work though. I feel like this probably wasn't super helpful.  Sorry.  :-\ Good luck!
Thank you for your time, I love you.

I use the upper cheek also. It's called buccal instead of sublingual. Above the upper teeth gum, there is a ridge sort of. Push the Estrace tablet up there and go about normal life. I try to wait until I am done eating and avoid sinking for as long as I can. I will still taste a bit of it but most of it slowly dissolves and absorbs in the cheek. This way you can skip the massive saliva pool in your mouth.

Yuck, spiro under the tongue? I once heard it called an atomic breath mint. I swallow those like all my other meds except estradiol.

Under the tongue for me. Usually takes about 10 minutes to fully dissolve. I go by when it's not longer gritty feeling under the tongue and the sweet taste is gone. I also noticed that in the morning my mouth is dry so when I drink that first glass of water (the one to swallow the Spiro with), I swish a bit around at the end to fully hydrate my mouth. The transport from particle to the membranes is water or saliva. FWIW

Spiro's bio-availability is quite high, around 90%, higher if taken with food (in contrast to the 5% for estradiol) so I don't see the point to taking it sublingually. :)
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

Can you give more details?

I generally put the E under my tongue while I get my day going and put the Spiro in with my other daily vitamins to swallow after the E dissolves

My endo recommended the under the tongue method but I may try the upper cheek method with the E just to see if I like it

My best advise is to follow your Dr.'s recommendations

Are we talking about "lil blue pill", the one that comes in 28 dial pack???

Have tried taking both ways and, if intermittent breast tenderness is any indication, feel sublingual leads to an "estrogen rush" with levels probably dropping off quicker whereas just swallowing gives the body time to more evenly metabolize between 'applications', taking over the course of a day.

Perhaps just my imagination??
Quote""You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.""

Why can't 'they' design a higher mg estradiol pill that has a more consistent, slower level releasing 3-4 day half-life like bicalutamide??

We are talking about the blue or blue green colored Estrace or generic version. This is bioidenticle estradiol. The reason we take it sublingual or buccally is because if you swallow the pill, the liver will convert the largest portion to estrone as all intestinal absorbtion passes by the liver on the way to the body.

Estrone is much weaker at activating estrogen receptors but also can compete for those receptors.
Estrone does in fact raise the risk of blood clotting. Estrone and estriol both increase clotting factor. Estradiol does not.
Estrone can be converted back and forth to estradiol but it is more desirable for the body to get it in estradiol form and let the body do its own conversion to estrone as needed.
Estrone is a storable form of estrogen and can remain in fat and andipose tissues.

I think the circular 28 day pack is a form of birth control pill and not bioidenticle hormones.

I think there is a rush of estrogen both sublingual or buccal absorbtion. When my doctor prescribed me a higher dose, my Rx bottle said 1-1/2 tablet twice daily. So instead I split it 1 blue-green tablet three times a day to spread it out more.
