I just finished up the basic page of information I have collected over the last year of my studies. I tried to experiment with a warping program on my own picture to try making each of the shapes. That was a tedious project I did yesterday.

This adds on to the nails, eyebrow, basic makeup, and stuff I have made already.

I put a lot of information I have never seen all together in one place.

I still have a lot to do but this is the beginning. I still have to edit it and add at least one more thing (eyeglass shapes per face shape) that I want to it. I also may go in and try to add to my faces where to put the makeup and maybe add lines and labels to the face pictures, but I am tired from working on this for the last 2 days (and collecting data for the last year). LoL and want to sleep a bit. The facial warps were really time consumptive yesterday, and thats all I was able to do the whole day. I also have more data for nose, eyes, and facial contour, but that will be for another day.

Tell me how it is, so I can try fixing it.

I just added stuff on Eyeglasses today. It really helps round out the page I think. I still think it is a bit weak on lips information, which I have to study a bit more. I also want to get into the discussion of emphasising eye vs lips a bit more if I can.

and I have just spent the last 10-15 minutes trying to figure out my face shape.

Thats a very difficult angle to judge. In fact that is a great photo angle most often used because it does create a oval like shape from most face shapes. But from what I can tell your forehead is narrower than your cheeks.  If its only slightly narrower it may be more along the lines of Heart shaped. If significant narrower, look at your jaw. Your jaw is the hardest part to tell from this angle. If its wider than your cheeks (which is wider than your forehead) you are a Pear. If narrower (along with the significant narrower forehead) you are more Oval.

If so, try some of the techniques, and tell me if it works or not.

You have warm skin from what that picture shows. Thats why that cool colored shirt works well with your skin.

thanks for the color compliment! my mom thinks it's too light of a green and I should try for something a littler darker. I found colors that work best on me are colors normally found on a hamburger.
(browns, greens, mustard yellows, deep reds) I was looking at my face in the mirror and I think I have an oval shape. I've received a lot of compliments on my eyebrows since I thinned them out and gave them an arch so I think those are working in my favor. lol.

I have a makeup question for ya while I have your attention: I am trying to experiment with neutral and golden colors for blush and play up my natural skin tone instead of giving my cheeks a rosy look. would a gold-based bronzer work good for a blush with my skin tone?

also, I have dark lashes. I've always gone with black or clear for mascara. Almay thinks a brown mascara would bring out the brown in my eyes. I figured I should just stick with what works (black or clear). what do you think?

Here is my analysis:
I First tried to pull the Photo's colors that show up. Here is what the photo says your colors are currently.

Allison's Colors:


With an Oval face, makeup is mainly used to cover up skin flaws (discoloration, moisturize dry skin, absorb oily skin, scars, veins, wrinkles) , and other flaws (eye spacing and size, nose shape and size, chin and forehead profile, etc.; and less for contouring the shape of the face.

Colors for skin (both foundations and blushes) normally are  based off of your natural colors so first tell me if this image of your colors is correct.
If so the dark blush would normally be along the lines of the darker skin tones shown, and the highlights more of the top colors. Looks more of Deep Bronze. The dark color should normally lie within the deepest 2 natural colors of your face (from a few shades darker than the 3rd color [I took off of your average skin color] to the deepest which I took off of the darker skin parts.  I just looked over several bronzer powders available from various companies and it fits well with the color scheme depending on how dark you would pick. General rule is 2 shades darker than your normal skin. Normally the 2 blushes would be in your natural colors (since emphasis would normally be on eyes, not skin). Other consideration is powder for oily skin, creams and liquids for dry.

For your eyes, if this brown color is true ,in addition to the black and brown (which are more neutral), you can try purple such as these. Purple is made to Pop brown. Purple should go with your lavender shadow. Brown mascara and liner is probably de-emphasising your eye color a bit. Black works a little just because it is darker than your eye. Try the purple and tell me how it works out.

Well I enjoy reading your posts Allison. Running in to your posts several times always is a good sign. You are one of those I keep doing that with. I dont read every post of everyone on the messageboard, but end up reading about 20% of them closest to my own personal interests or questions.

Of my site? Maybe they know all that stuff already. Or not interested in it. I find it all fascinating and fun.

I try to post it on my site because last Feb I decided I wanted to learn it. I set a goal to learn it in the next year and explore what I could. I got frustrated how spread out some key info was and not all together. I also got frustrated with sites that had just models and abnormal (models are a bit abnormal) people in it or drawings.

I also became frustrated with detailed pictures of step by step processes.

The hard part is getting the time and energy to post or upload it.

Stephanie: Your mostly Diamond shaped. With a slight troubled area in sides of jaw.

In your current picture for avatar I like the golden highlights, compared to the bleached blond and darker hair colors you have, It brings out the colors of your skin more. Is it like this or just the photo results.

For colors answer me one question. What color are your eyes. According to the samples from the picture they range from green to brown, though Elaine says they are a blue. I normally start with the eyes.

I will make up the colors as soon as i answer that, I took samples from 3 pictures, 2 from your site.

Alison: Your in between oval and rectangle. Just enough rectangle to use some of those techniques to round the jaw and temples a bit and widen your cheekline a hair. Your glasses help do this already being wider than tall. The oval ones probably help soften the slight angles a bit more than rectangular.

You could also try a few things with your hair instead of straight or pulled back. A little side whisp about mid ear coming from bangs coming across one side. By doing so switching more to a side part bangs. Hair that goes back around ears then forward curving under jawline. Two or three well place highlights might really look nice on you. And your eyebrows could look amazing a bit thinner (maybe with a slight brow pencil too). Not with a harsh angle , but a curve following your natural ones ( taking out that angle would maybe be beneficial).

Eye Makeup I would try to open your eyes a bit more with some shadow on the outer top lid to halfway to end of brow arch.

Colors, I could do more of if I new the true colors: Eyes and Skin tone (Hair seems brown). The Glare of the Monitor distorts your colors to a more blue shift. Your eyes seem brown, and skin could be anywhere from fair to medium.

Anyway, those are a few things I would experiment. Read a little from my rectangle page to get a few possible things to try , see what ya think.

On my list of things to read is going to be the book "Plastic Surgery Without the Surgery: The Miracle of Makeup Techniques". I think this goes along with the types of techniques I am trying to learn. Will see what new methods I can learn.

I also want to get into Facial Exercises to help shape and condition facial features. I am really interested in it for myself (not wanting to resort to plastic surgery for anything if possible)

Think Catherine Zeta-Jones for some inspiration for clothing. Your skin, hair, and eyes put you in more of her type of clothing colors. See watch and see what looks great color wise on her.


With blue eyes, try the same eye makeup as I recommended for Stephanie, the brown based.

For foundation (if you need any to cover any blemishes, discoloration, or skin flaws) just match your skin, and get a slightly lighter and darker set for highlights and shades.

Very much Winter colors. Clothes that are one main color or very simple patterns. You with shine and sparkle with dark rich colors. Here is a basic color swatch.



You may notice lack of browns and oranges which you may want to stay away from wich may be horrendous on your fair skin.

With your Fair skin, great hair and almost oval shaped face, you can look amazing very easily.

You have a square based face. Your challenges are to soften the angles and to lengthen the face a bit.

Jessica Simpson has a similar shaped face base

I think the easiest and best places to influence your shape is your hair.

Hair: You would maybe like to try hair that is still short but has volume on top from the crown to the ear. Something that curves at the temples, has a slight side part to one side. The height would help lengthen, and the sides would help pull out the side lines to more of a curved shape.

One of the easiest ways to "try" different hairstyles is a virtual hairstyle program. I have used the one at http://beauty.ivillage.com/stc/hairstylist/hairstylist.html?o=dcm,vhs,iv,el,prodname,bs,lnavhotstuff. You can upload your facial picture and try out hairstyles.

Hair styles you can either grow out or wig it (wigs good for quick change or in times when natural hair length and style isnt possible).

I think you could have fun in that area.

Your eyes look brown in these pictures. If so try the purple. Blue can also be used for brown eyes in many situations.

Where's the Greens?
You may the only main eye makeup color I havent used is Greens. Greens are for Hazel eyes. Some blue eyes may be able to wear Green mascara and liner also, but it works really well with hazels especially golden hazels.

What about Green eyes?
Pink, salmon, mauve, and brownish-pink are the main eye colors for you.

What about Blacks?
Black eye makeup can be used by any color. It is the most common of all the colors for everyday use. However, I have tried to pick Colors that compliment, avoiding the universal black. Black isnt bad, and can be used when you dont want color. Everyone should have a black in their kit too. Black just doesnt help define colors, unless used in large quantities, or unique ways. It looks extremely average.
