Hi all.

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Meltzer in Arizona and I was provided with the cost for two surgical plans pertaining to FFS. The combined cost exceeded $75,000.00. Needless to say, I am now desperately trying to identify an insurance provider that covers such procedures, ideally fully. I am an unemployed college student and although my University does provide a plan through Aetna for SRS, the plan excludes FFS. I considered purchasing insurance through Kaiser Permanente after being told that their individual plans were unusually progressive and did cover procedures of this nature. Unfortunately, I am living in Arizona, a state that foolishly does not allow one to purchase insurance across state lines as of 2017, and I am unable to relocate to a more progressive state due to family issues. My current insurance provider, CareFirst, is ostensibly designed for the economically disadvantaged so I HIGHLY doubt they would enter into an agreement for a claim of this nature. Barring the presence of a sympathetic benefactor (Haha), I'm afraid I will be unable to live a life I consider to be more authentic and one in which I am not subject to persistent insecurity regarding my appearance. I am quite interested in any constructive advice you might be willing to impart.

Thank you.

BCBS (Blue Cross Blue Shield) covers it if "medically necessary" for some policies.  It may be a rider that my company added.  It's definitely not on all points policies.

Thank you Denise. I will definitely explore this option, i.e., arguing, via an anticipated appeal, that there is a medically necessarily need.

Thanks again.

I'm on appeal number three now.  It was submitted last week.  Fingers crossed

I hope you're approved as three appeals does sound both discouraging and emotionally exhausting!

Care to elaborate?  Did they deny you for not being 'medically necessary'?  I don't mean to derail the thread, so pm me if you wish.  I also think it may be pertinent to the OP's original post, though.  :)
Some people say I'm apathetic, but I don't care.

The price quote seems awfully high.... What exactly is included if you don't mind me asking?
