I have just seen Harley's post about being a bride's maid and I have been thinking about my son getting married. That inspires me to ask if you have done a real formal event in your newer gender presentation. Have you worn a formal dress for the first time or worn a tux? Were you nervous? How did it make you feel. In my dreams, I picture it as so cool. Have a story? Would love to hear it!

Good idea for a thread! I've been transitioning for about half a year and tbh I've no idea how I'd present formally yet.....but there's a wedding looming in September. My sister's a bridesmaid, my non-bridesmaid status is officially put down to "it was organised before you came out", but tbh I'm glad of it, because I'll be half a foot taller than the other bridesmaids, I usually feel like a guy around my family anyway (urgh!), and yeah. But I guess it'll be a flowey dress and some sort of heels......I mean, I'm 6'2 already, I might as well be 6'5.......

I had a work formal 2 months after I came out. I was very nervous. I had a wig on and the damn cap kept sliding. I did not know I had to pull my hair taught. Now my 1st hair graph is in and expecting the second round to be coming in soon. So my next formal in the fall will be fun.

I haven't been to a really formal event yet. I was at a semiformal Christmas party though.  Since my mom isn't in the picture any more I went with my dad to his work Christmas party. Everyone wore their uniforms and the people who weren't cops dressed kind of formally. I wore a cashmere sweater and skirt set and over the knee boots with a 3 inch heal so I got to be 5'7 for the night. It went fine and I didn't embarrass my dad. I was a lady and waited until I was in the ladies room to pick my nose and everything.

Awesome, the definition of a true lady. lol

I can say the only 'formal' event I've been to was a couple weddings that were "don't dress up" rules, and many funerals. Being I don't have any "fancy" clothes all I wore was a button dress shirt & black pants (not jeans). Post transition, I only see myself attending a few more events (mostly funerals) and marriage is out of the equation for me.

Uhhh yes.  The first time was a stuffy LBD event for work.  It didn't go very well.  The CEO was a judgemental devout "Christian" full of intolerance and his new-found dislike of me was very evident.  Made me pretty uncomfortable.  We lasted about 1 hour and then bailed skipping the meal and before he did his BS prayer and rambling rah-rah speech.   We found ourselves just down the street at a place know to be a little more fun and relaxed.  And then on to McDonalds!  LOL 

That was early on.  We've since gone to other similar events including a few "long dress" types.  I'll share that I do NOT like long dresses.  Silly things.  Easy to dip in the potty, step on, trip on, tuck in the wrong places and all kinds of other interesting kinds of things.

Not yet.  I have been to a funeral and a concert.  The concert was more fun.

Can't wait for something more formal to be honest.

Trans conferences offer opportunities to dress to the nines in your most elegant threads; I think the next one on the agenda is in Philadelphia. I'm mostly a jeans and cute top kind of gal, but I enjoy going all out occasionally.

I went to the Christmas Party for Ingersoll Gender center with about 160 or so others. I had a nice black lace dress and aside from being self conscious about my height all went well. Even received some compliments that put a nice toasty feeling in my heart.

Hi Jenny, do you think you can elaborate on what you mean by feeling like a guy around your family? Do you mean your dysphoria is lessened when you are with family? Thanks!

I've done some 'business formal' events, speeches and presentations.  Nothing at the formal gown level, though.  I don't see anything like that in my future.

Julia you had me laughing about waiting to pick your nose! 
I wish I could wear heels. I'm 5-11 in flats.

Last November I went to my brother and his boyfriends wedding. I was supposed to be my brothers "best man" but with my injury I could not stand long enough, so I just got a front row seat. My mother-in-law helped me buy a new suit. A ladies suit pants and jacket. We had fun shopping. Went to Dillard's locally. So much pretty things and all too small for me except their smaller "plus size" area. I ended up with a Calvin Klien suit and a new pair of sheepskin loafers.

Definately the most expensive clothes I have ever owned. Lol 
Recently I bought a dress off the Wish website. On the ladies in the picture, the dress is knee high. On me its above the knee a couple of inches. Not sure when I will actually have a use for it. I'm just getting closer to feeling confident in brightly colored tops. Eh it's hard learning to be myself. If anyone buys from Wish, remember to read carefully. Some is in Asian sizes not American. My dress is a 3XL and its fits comfortably.
