I have an ingrown hair on my groin area from shaving the pubes. I don't know how to treat it. I  am checking out tea tree oil. Have any of you had ingrown hairs and how did you handle them? It's starting to get quite annoying.

exfoliation and "Tend Skin" (or comparable product). Stubborn ones need to be carefully lifted, like you would for a splinter, then treated.  Heals up quick. Don't try to scratch it out. And don't lift except last resort.

At least, that's what I do .. right? I don't know. If there's a better approach I should know soon

Pretty rare this happens but I would just rip it out with tweezers, then put some Germolene on it

If you do not remove the hair, it will continue to grow and swell.. They can take forever to heal.. I never pluck out for this reason, partially pubic hair which can be very course with a mind of its own.. It should not just happen by shaving. Try an electric shaver.. Heaps better.. The gentle skin one with round heads... Much cheaper in the long term too....Use it under the arms too.. Any body area really...

I use one of those little rechargeable shavers for the pelvic area after dealing with ingrown hairs. I had to pick skin from the surface, and pull them out with tweezers. Never again would I use a razor there.

A couple. I've found a 24 gauge hypodermic needle and fine point tweezers a handy combination. They're also useful for splinters, thorns and almost anything else that needs to be extracted—although for anything really deep/big I prefer a larger gauge and/or a #10A or #12 scalpel.

I have this problem too - dark ingrown hairs under the fat on my stomach.

I see the similarity Zirconia, they are like a few small splinters really. Large gauge hypodermic may be the answer!

I know I've replied previously but ... exfoliate ... Picking and scratching can lead to scarring. Grabbing one removing like a splinter can work if they aren't too deep. They will eventually come up on their own, why have unnecessary permanent scars?

If you must dig, treat treat treat .. promote that skin healing.

Exfoliation will help if the ingrown hairs are shallow enough, but sometimes they can be quite deep. A hypodermic needle used not to cut but to rather fish/hook them out through the smallest puncture possible should not cause any more scarring than an injection with the same gauge needle. Done right, the break in the skin should be very small and shallow—just large enough for the hair to come through.

Anyway, I stopped plucking when I found it was causing ingrowns. I've been told that if they get infected or otherwise irritated that may in itself cause scarring. Electrolysis is much more effective although it does take more time.

An ingrown hair can cause a serious swelling, sometimes requiring surgical treatment. In my experience it is usually caused by using epilator or wax. To avoid ingrown hairs, I used Tria home laser to reduce hairs in any part of my body. It never caused any ingrown hair problem. For the pelvic area, it is easy to apply Tria, which will greatly reduce hairs for wearing bikini in summer.
