I have two facebook accounts.  Facebook hates this as they insist you must use your birth name.

One is my original male account that I have everybody on and the other is the brand new Katie one that only those that know about me are on.

Thing is, on my (Katie) account it keeps coming up with people I may know which are people on my old man account.
So if they are showing up on mine, surely I am showing up on theirs and whilst I look a bit different it isn't that difficult to tell.

This is the strangest feeling as I want people to know but I can't come out because of finances and job.
It's a very frustrating time.

I realized that too when I made my Cheaney account. I'm not out yet to all of my family and I'm pre everything right now so that would out me for sure. I ended up doing a fake last name and didn't put a profile pic up yet. Plus I'm also a little worried if certain people find out then my job would be in jeopardy. I'm going to lose it in a couple of months anyways but I need it until then lol.

If you want your new and old Facebook accounts to remain separate, you have to take extraordinary measures.  Facebook's whole thing is about making connections between people, and its software is extremely good at it.  It can tell from your Internet address that both accounts come from the same computer, so it can easily guess that both your selves know each other.  Therefore all your friends on both accounts will be invited to 'friend' the other account.

You can keep two accounts separate if: you only access each account from a different computer; and you ensure that the two accounts have no friends in common, don't belong to or 'like' the same groups, etc.  Any exceptions, and you have broken the isolation between the accounts.

I know
People will need to know one day and if they figure it out online I can always BS them if I don't feel ready.
I want everyone to know, I just can't afford to lose my job right now

Facebook is a great place to come out. I have just one account, and many people seem to be interested in me far more than I surmised. Most of them are supportive, or do not care about identity stuffs. Just as one individual person living together in the world.

This is partially untrue. Both accounts can access from the same IP without issues¹. However, the 2 accounts can have nothing in common, no friends, none of the same pages or friends..

¹: Did this myself for about 6 months, no issues until 1 commonality emerged..

Yes, FB won't get too suspicious about just the IP address.  But you will need to clear your browser cookies every time you access one of the FB accounts, or access them from different browsers.  The cookies will tell it that the two accounts are related.

Actually they insist you must use your legal name (otherwise married women couldn't have an account under their married name, adopted people couldn't use the name their adoptive parents gave them, etc.). (Even though I know you're probably writing from the perspective of a pre-legal-name-change TG person in which "birth" and "legal" name would be synonymous, try to use these terms as they'd apply regardless of your status to avoid giving the impression to other readers that Facebook would insist you use a name that is no longer your legal one.)

I've thought the same things. I block a lot of people on my trudie account, but, if they find out or figure it out, oh well.

Nope, even that wasn't an issue. Both of us playing the same game was what tripped me up.. At which point I was ready to ditch the old one and move on..

In 2014, To fix my facebook, I created an account through a proxy in indonesia, some people there do not have last names. This allowed me to get away with not being linked to anyone. I was stealth back then.. So I feel your pain. After your account is created, just switch your country back to US. It's about a 5 step process on PC and there are tons of tutorials if you google "proxy facebook account without last name"

Is anyone familiar with TOR (the onion router) torproject.org?  You install it on your pc (it is based on firefox browser) and it encrypts your traffic to a tor exit/entrance node.  It gets randomized on the TOR network and then exits at a different exit/entrance node.  It may be a bit slower, but it gives you a separate browser with separate cookies and it looks like you are coming from a different IP address with each session, different countries even.  If you are looking to stay anonymous it is probably the best way.  Also, its free.  I think you can even double up by using a proxy service on top of using TOR, but I have not done that as of yet.

TOR is a proxy, basically. I would give a long answer to this but I don't think anyone would care to read it. Just use a proxy, it's it's the same thing and you don't have to install 3rd party software to use it.

If you need the job it seems safer to just delete Facebook.

It does but I'm really struggling to hold back on telling people.

We don't want to delve too far into the NSA, but when it comes to being spied upon by the government, there really aren't too many places to hide.  If all you are trying to do is confuse Facebook, that is probably a little bit lower of a bar...

Haha if Mi5 want to stalk me on Facebook and then tell facebook to ban my second account because it isn't my legal name...then all my trust is them is gone forever lol
