is it really that difficult to accept  that churches that view  their members as sinners would be unaccepting of GLBT people who tend to refuse to accept that GLBT is in fact a sin?

when I transitioned I was a member of the Southern Babptist synod (reformed). It was a waking event when several of the membership approached me and suggested that my transition was inspired by "satan". This was confusing as the Pastor had married me and my Husband in the church.

One man in my old Anglican Church told me that all homosexuals should be killed.  It's hard to make a counter argument when that is in fact what the scriptures say.

You can start here

Only thing I told my daughter when she started going to church was to remember that the bible is not a text book.

As I recently mentioned in another thread, a Baptist called me a "sodomite" after he noticed my nail polish.  I wonder what he'd have said if he'd noticed my bra & pantyhose.
I'm a 65 year old male who has been thinking about SRS for many years.  I also was a  full cross dresser for a few years.  I wear a bra, pantyhose and nail polish daily because it just feels right.

People wrapped up in the scriptures, often the Old Testament. I wonder if they'd rather be Orthodox Jews. When one looks at the New Testament, specifically the gospel and when one considers jesus' one commandment that covers it all, these people are way off base and very unchrist like. They see Christianity through their cultural lenses and use the former to justify the latter. I went episcopal parochial school until the 8th grade and never heard that attitude.

I would reply with a similar old testament verse that no one follows anymore.  Like telling him he should eat shellfish or wear clothes woven from more than two types of fabrics.

I'm not all that surprised really. Several of the bigger christian denominations in Australia are welcoming and affirming of LGBTI people, some even have ministers/preachers who are LGBTI themselves.

This is not medical advice. Always consult your doctor.

And I have a major problem with one of the central stories in the Bible. The story of Abraham and Isaac.  Murdering your kid just because a cruel and angry god tells you to on a whim? In the context of a time and place where child sacrifice to the gods was a commonplace?  And how about the story of Job?  Totally messes up Job's life to win a bet with the devil.  Capricious.  Cruel.  Angry.  Is it any wonder that so many modern adherents are likewise?

Why in the heck would I want to go the church every Sunday just to get the heck beat out of me?

I think Bob Dylan put it best . . .

Highway 61 Revisited

Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway 61"

Hello,

It is becoming known in my circle that I was a sodomite before I became male to female. Recently I read the corinthians. I feel too many talks about Christianity are about Cursing, the Devil and about Sin. I tell my children that I am a Transgender Disciple, I am a Disciple of Jesus, Adonai and of Buddha. I know my sin is somewhere between perversion and real love. If Transgender women would start asking themselves how they have sinned, and not if they are cursed, LGBT religion might start to take a more heartening look at it's religious nature. This talk about being condemned, and superstition is only maddening. It has nothing to do with Christianity it comes from Sooth Sayers only, I have been both welcomed, and met with relief about my coming, and going to church, but I have never been called anything except one who was tempted. I am so sick of non Christian believers commenting about Christian Spirituality who miss the margins. As a Transgender Woman and a Sodomite; Sin, Virtue, Faith and Belief are all personal suppositions of which the Church would not expect us to accept through intolerance any means of justification for condemnation.

It looks like we are welcome in the Lutheran Church:

I recently learned through Ancestry dot com that my maternal grandfather was a Lutheran, something Mom never bothered to tell me.

So if I join an organized church, I'm becoming a Lutheran like grand dad.

Is that the whole Lutheran church?  Or just one congregation.  There was one incident, not to long ago, where the congregation stood up to their church to support someone (not trans) who violated church policy, but they wanted her anyway.

The Lutheran Church, like every other Protestant denomination in the US, is endlessly divided over every conceivable issue under the sun.  That's what happens when your entire religious belief system is based on individual interpretation of a 2000 year old book.
