 Any harassment in the workplace is wrong. Our live are not easy as it is but to face ignorance for being who you are is insanity. People need to remember that truth and honesty are a part of coming out. Living a lie to please others is what being a fraud and fake person are plain and simple.

This is something I worry about.  I am a teacher in a fairly conservative city.  This is one of the reasons I still present as male.  I wish people would stop attacking what they don't understand.

That's certainly been my experience. While by law they need to accepting the subtle pressure under it all is that you are a 'problem' and you have to work twice as hard to be seen as competent. They also look for ways to undermine your position so they can get rid of said problem. Ain't happening!

Yes. Students are far more accepting than old people. Some girl students even gave me tips on fashion and beauty in their evaluation after a semester. But nowadays old people are also becoming accepting.
