If you graduated college before your name change or transition were you able to somehow get your name changed on the degree/diploma? I have a High School Diploma with my name on it. I will be starting college and don't know how soon my name change will happen.

For us in the UK, I was told you can't change the name on a degree qualification/certificate atm when I asked, which is why I've changed my name on the course before I finish. Elsewhere, I have no idea. Rules are possibly different.

Getting my degree switched was easy here in the USA.

I went to a state university in New Jersey. I had no problem getting it changed with a  copy of my name change court order.  I also helped my wife change hers in Colorado at a state university, which was not quite as straightforward but was not terribly difficult either.

I changed my name on both of my undergrad degrees, and my grad degree, with no trouble.  Court ordered name change and my records in the schools were changed.  2ez

Hi KarlMars !!
Yes, I was.
I called the school (s) , asked what the procedure was, sent my documents (driver license/BC/Passport copy/ss card) and had MS certs/degree/job history (from former employers (2) . Pretty easdy part of the process really. AFTER the harder work was done, this part was just a document formality. I had no problems at all with this.
As a matter of fact, the Hillborough County Clerk office institude new P&P for that office prior to all the document stuff, to correct the name and gender for Florida BC when the applicant is resident of another state.
hth and good luck to and ty for sharing this :)

Hillsborough County had never done this before, so with the aid of a lawyer we got er done and the new P&P were implemented :)

I am happy to hear from this thread, since I have a BA and want to do a Masters I was wondering how easy or hard it is to deal with the name change

That's one name change I hadn't thought about.  I just checked with my university, and all they need is a couple of forms, a copy of ny name change certificate, and some money.  I guess I'll be sending off a request soon.

At least my military certificates use initials only, which have not changed.

I have 2 undergrad degrees...  mathematics and economics and a graduate degree in Business Admin.... and I never bothered to get my name changed on any of them.... if and when it becomes and issue I can easily just provide my other documentation to prove that the name on the diplomas are who I was when I earned them.
... but I don't think I will have to ever do that because when transitioned to full time about a year and a half ago, I started my own small CPA business and at that time I changed my legal name on my passport, drivers license, and other important ID to my female name...  I don't think that I will be applying for a job with a company any time in the future. There is definitely a benefit for not applying for a job with a company or corporation.

Lupe:   I think that since you are considering continuing your university education and earning an additional degree or more that you should absolutely get your name on your BA diploma legally changed to your current legal name.   You absolutely want the names to be consistent and legally up to date when you apply for future employment.

I am curious:   What subject area are you planning to get your graduate degree in???

I will change my name but Im taking baby steps first I gotta talk with my spouse about my decision to go for HRT  and deal with the aftermath of that. For grad school I wanna do sociology, I wanted to focus on the area of gender and sexuality to see if for my study case I could do it on our trans community but it seems like there's already many people doing it :( so I'll probably focus on studying labor under the "gig economy"

Lupe:  Since you have not yet started HRT, right now is not the time to worry about legal name changes.   I did not change my legal name until I went full-time.  In my opinion that was a good time for me to do it.
