The Biggest Threat We Face
Published on March 14, 2008

http://www.andrewtobias.com/newcolumns/080314.html

Republican state representative Sally Kern took to the floor of the Oklahoma legislature recently to speak on homosexuality.  "I honestly think it's the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam," she said.

She chairs the Education Committee, no less.

If you take three or four minutes to listen, I think you'll realize she's sincere, just (in my view) ignorant and misguided.

But I bring this to your attention because her speech elicited this remarkable letter from a high school senior:

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

Thanks for bringing that to our attention.
Ms Kern will most certainly NOT appreciate the email I just sent her.

Wow. Tucker deserves a medal. Or something. What a guy.

I have to agree. That was one grandly done letter. I hope she will read it with the heart she's bound to have somewhere within her. He seems wise in this respect and hopefully that wisdom will reach her and she will not simply pass him off as 'some kid who doesn't understand.'

That was a wonderful letter. He really said what needed to be said. While reading that letter, I had the thought that all these so called Christians say that there is this Gay or Transgender Agenda going on. I have not heard of any Agenda only that the rights of people are being violated. I do wonder, though, is there a Christian Heterosexual Agenda going on? I know there are a lot of Christians out there and I do know that most do not believe in the Gay, Trans., Agenda like most Heterosexuals don't believe in  the agenda. I do wonder about the people like this Kern woman and her kind.

Hmmm....

"They" certainly have well formed agendas.  Google "The New American Century" and read a few articles.  It is real.  Look it up in Wikipedia.  Make sure you check out a few editorial opinions.  I like this one:

http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0122-14.htm

I've been trying to find a slide show that I saw a while back on this thing.  If anyone knows, please PM me with the link and post it here.  It shows the true intent of these people from a more liberal perspective.

And then there is the right wing do gooders resolve to change our constitution to officially make this a "Christian nation".  Minor goals are to amend the constitution to cover pro choice and anti gay marriage.

Activists include on their agenda to prevent all people in our country from obtaining equal rights under the constitution.  They are active in every state to debunk and prevent laws from passing.  They are well organized and are experts at making simple hate cliches stick.  People support their efforts without ever knowing why. They do so in fear.

So yes, they have a much better sense of organization, unity, direction, AND agenda than the GLBT "community" has.

Now this letter by Tucker really put things into perspective doesn't it?  First of all it shows us that young people are a lot smarter than we give them credit.  They see the discrimination and look to adults for direction.  If we give them the license, they will revert to primal instincts.  If we give them direction, they more readily can handle any situation.

This letter was very touching.  It brought a few tears to my eyes for its clarity, deep understanding, and compassion.  He'll be a fine young leader that will be admired.  I hope he aspires to politics.

Take heart that at root they are simply not effective.  The War in Iraq, finding Ossma, No Child Left Behind, Social Security Reform - not a success story among them.  So to with most of this.  Constitutional amendments are very hard to pass, not really trusting the democratic system ain't going to help them.

Their support lays mostly in states that don't count, like Oklahoma.

They will eventually fail.  The basis for their hatred is not shared by everyone. Enlightenment is inevitable I believe.  I really do.

But, very likely not for them. More likely for their children and grandchildren.

Indeed Nichole.  It will take a generation or two.  I was thinking about this very thing last night as I was watching an installment of "The Universe".

There was a time when it was heresy to consider that the Earth orbited the Sun.  There was a time when it was heresy for a doctor to perform surgery.

Times change. We learn. We eventually accept the facts.

Yeah, and it only costs us a few witches on the pyre, some heretics stoned to death and a religious war or two to get there every time.

We learn, but we seem to always find something new to hate and kill each other over.

Sadly, this will always be true.

I'm working on new ways to hate even that this moment.  I'm stuck on getting past Tofurkey and the Bush and Clinton families however.

Well, tekla, I'd say you are doing better than many. At least you limit your hatred of people you don't know to two families and your hatred of inanimate objects to one form of food-stuff.

I'd say you qualify as downright compassionate.

In fact, Tofurkey aside, the biggest threat we face is ourselves, and our lack of unity.  All else pales in comparison.  United we stand, and divided, we are falling.
