So I've been to multiple doctors and none of them will prescribe me hormones so I'm going to self medicate.   Yes I know the risks,  but I just need to know what tests to ask for when I go in to get my blood work done before I start.  Any advice would help!

Welcome to Susan's Place. Unfortunately site rules don't allow us to assist somebody attempting to self medicate. In addition, doctors will adjust the tests depending on your age and any issues uncovered in your physical examination. Because our members are all around the world, it's possible if you can give us the name of a major city near you we can help you find treatment. Doctors are a bit difficult to find but we have had pretty good luck connecting members with doctors.

I did self medication and I based it off of what I found online from other trans that post their dosages. I don't know what you would ask for as far as a blood test workup, since I am not a doctor or nurse. I did self medicate for 9 months. I didn't have insurance so couldn't afford a bunch of doctors visits. With informed consent you should have been able to find some doctor to prescribe you hormones a doctor I saw for a physical asked if I wanted him to fill it. I may not be going back to them. They were good but, not friendly. Anyway with informed consent you should be able to find ONE!

Why are several doctors refusing to prescribe HRT?

Do you live in a country where TG people are persecuted? It will just get worse when the changes from HRT become visible. Consider relocating before HRT.

Do you have any health problems?  Many doctors will shy away from HRT if you have a history of blood clots in your veins.

Do you have a HRT letter from your therapist? Many doctors require this in order to get HRT prescriptions. Some of us with problems seeing a therapist have gone to Planned Parenthood and received HRT prescriptions with nothing more than signing an "informed consent" agreement.

Are the doctors you consulted with just not familiar with or opposed to transgender care for any reason? If this is the situation then there are many Endocrinologists who are very familiar with HRT. Many of us went to Endocrinologists and we found the care to be excellent. They tests they do are CBC, liver and kidney function tests.

Above all else, Do not self-medicate. There are so many paths to proper medical care that self-medication is foolish at best and dangerous at worst.
