So I just started transitioning a little more than two weeks ago. And while ice searched this online I can't find what I'm looking for. What I'm really curious about is how do i get rid of my chest hair? Will it disappear on its own through the course of taking HRT? Do I have to have it lasered off? And what about shaving my legs? My armpits?

Hi Saoirse 🙋‍♀️ Welcome to Susan's Place!  I'm Jessica.
Hrt takes time and it is different for each individual.  With myself after nearly 9 months, my leg and chest hairs have thinned.  Facial hair is something that will need electrolysis or laser to remove.

I see your new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site. Pay attention to the site rules they can be of great help and don't forget the link highlighted red.  It has answers to questions that are commonly asked.  Then join in on a topic you find interesting and learn and share.

When I first started last year I was in a rush to get rid of all my body and facial hair but after reading online I found out facial hair was the main target, since HRT would most likely take care of the rest. And I gotta tell you that's absolutely true, my body hair is very thin and grows very slowly. Didn't need to laser it, nowadays I just epilate the upper body and shave the legs.

My advice is focus on your facial hair and wait for HRT to diminish the body hair, you might save some money and pain. And if you got no facial hair then you're a lucky girl :)

Hi, Saoirse.

You will see the expression "YMMV" a lot when talking about HRT: Your Mileage May Vary.  There is no way to predict what results you will have.

However, it is very common for chest and other body hair to thin out a lot, get finer, and get lighter in colour once you start on E.  I never had much to begin with, and now it is all gone except for two or three hairs.

If it doesn't thin out enough, you may need electrolysis to permanently get rid of it.  But you likely won't know that until you try it.

For me leg hair lessened, armpit hair did not.  I had that all zapped off with laser, oh what a great investment that was.  (what can I say, I'm lazy about shaving)

I never had any chest hair but the little bit of hair around my navel that did develop fell off within a few months of starting HRT.

I am 4 months on HRT now and am not noticing any hair thinning yet, but I just started full dose estrogen in the past few weeks so hopefully that helps. Today was my 53rd electrolysis appointment and did yet another lip clearing, probably at least 8 now. It's looking good but wish it would just be over with.

Hi, Saoirse! Welcome to Susan's Place! I see you didn't mention genital hair removal. I do enjoy being the one to break the news!  >:-)

See you around the site!

Hi Saoirse,   Not sure how my experience compares to the other girls here but within 3 months of orchiectomy I had lost most of my body hair and all of my pubic hair, hth  Justine  x
