Does anyone try to connect with other transgender people when traveling in a new area? I am traveling to Las Vegas this week for work and was wondering if it would be safe and/or positive to try to connect with other transgender people while in town. There are very, very few transgender people in my home city and I was thinking that a bigger place like Vegas might offer some opportunity to connect with a larger transgender community.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Hi BlueJaye. :) It's always risky to try and connect with strangers. That said, if you can find an established support group there and you could be with others like us that would be awesome. The last thing you should ever do is look at hook-up listings and such things on Craigslist and other similar sites. I know it's exciting to be in a new city, but be safe and be aware. Best wishes and have fun in Vegas! I have been there myself and it's a fun city, but see if you can Google a local LGBTQ support group and go from there. I was there with a group of friends so we didn't really look for others. My other advice .... set a limit on your gambling amount and stop when you get there! Vegas counts on people saying "just one more play .. " ...  :)

I guess it depends. Would I meet someone from Susan's when traveling and the chance arises? Most likely yes. And I have met some really lovely people that way.

Outside of Susan's I would agree, trying to find a local support group is an excellent suggestion.

Hugs - Sarah
