I'm full time m2f transgender (have been full time for 17 months). I have been very up and down with my emotions for a little while now. My gender clinic have put me on <not Allowed> estrogen patches (twice a week) and <not Allowed> zoladex (every 12 weeks). In addition to this, I'm also taking <not Allowed> finasteride to promote hair growth.
I'm finding that small issues at the moment are sending onto an emotional rollercoaster. Is it possible that this extra finasteride is adversely affecting my emotions?

We have a rule about posting hormone doses. Not allowed.

Getting back to your original question, yes, Finasteride can cause emotional depression. The high dose is for prostate conditions and the low dose is for hair loss. The low dose may help reduce the depression as compared to the high dose.

It works by blocking the conversion of T into DHT. By blocking the production of DHT, you should stop losing hair, but as for restoring hair, many people report only limited results.

Hi, Jenny!

Welcome to Susan's.

Please don't mention dosages on the forum.

Whether your dose is too high or too low is up to your doctor to determine, after looking at your blood levels.  If you feel an adjustment is necessary, you should talk to your doctor about that.  Make sure that they also know about the finasteride, so they can take that into account.

It is normal to experience intensified emotions when you start on estrogen.
