Utterly Confused

Hey guys,

So just wondering, what type of top surgery did you have and how long (if at all) did it take for you to have sensation in your chest and nipples again?

Cheers

Hey man,

It's been so long since I had my surgery I can't actually remember what it's referred to as it but double incision, so I now have two scars that run along the base of my chest and my nipples were removed and re grafted to where they should be.

I had that 4 years ago - I have sensation across my chest and would say it took about 6 months to feel how it feels now; but it is a different kind of feeling to before. Numb is the closest word, but it just kind of feels 'removed' if that makes sense, compared to the rest of my skin. Almost like someone is touching someone else and I can feel it. Certainly for the first few months I felt very little.

As for nipples - one of my grafts unfortunately came off so I have a fortunately very nipple shaped scar where my right nipple should be. That either feels nothing or quite intense so uncomfortable to say, squeeze. My other nipple that remained feels strange - I've never been in to nipples so I can't really remember what it felt like before. I can feel it being touched but I don't think I would be able to tell the difference between hot and cold. That feeling took a lot longer to come back, I didn't think about it much so it might not have been as long as I remember but I'd guess like over a year until I was aware of touch.

None of this stuff bothers me at all so I guess it depends how much it matter to you, obviously it's unlikely to determine whether or not you get top surgery as is a life-changing procedure and I haven't regretted it for a second - even when my nipple came off in the shower! Hope that's not TMI :P

Any other questions feel free to ask
Also just as a general comment, my surgeon was exception and my scars are great. It wasn't his fault at all, I was just unlucky!

yeah there's some loss of sensation along the incisions and the nips I guess. They said that would improve with time but I would describe the sensation at 2-3 months post op the same way Egraves did - like someone else's skin. So I don't expect it's going to improve much on what it is right now, if 4 yrs on it's the same. Doesn't bother me that much, just had to be careful in the first few weeks because it's easy to hurt yourself in numb areas without knowing you did.

i think egraves described it pretty close to what i feel as well. i also had a double incision 3 years ago and i can't even exactly remember when my chest started to get some kind of sensation, maybe 6 months? but it still feels numb which is the best way to describe it. i can feel like pressure and i can definitely feel it when i'm working out and my upper part of my pecs hurt (still kinda numb) but where i have my scars and that surrounding area, it's more numb then the upper part of my pecs. the that's the only way to describe it i think. you have to experience it i guess to understand the sensation. my nipples feel that way too. there's no "sensation" as you would have prior to having top surgery. either way, i'm extremely happy with my results and wouldn't change a thing. the sensation/numb thing wasn't even something you really had to get used to imo, it kinda just became your new normal, i guess.

I was almost numb before surgery in the area tbh, I remember I could poke it or scratch it and feel almost no pain anyway. It was a different level of sensation before (better than now) but it was still poor in terms of pain receptors.

I had double incision and I'm merely 10 days post operative so I don't know how much insight my answer can possibly give at this point but I am still going to reply.
The right side actually has almost normal feeling again everywhere except for the cut itself where the scar will be.
The left side on the other hand has several numb spots especially around the nipple which feel weird when I take off the patches to change them or when touched. I also currently have a large haematoma on that side what isn't the most comfortable thing to have either.
My nipples themselves are basically still wounds and they apparently look painful while they aren't at all. They just itch like hell and are partially still crusted over. I don't think that they will gain too much feeling again if at all. However my nipples have never been actually sensitive, not more or less sensitive than any other skin really. The only moments in which I felt them were when my binder had rubbed over them and made them become sore what definitely sucked.
