The History and Legacy of the Stonewall Riots

For many of us living today the Stonewall Riots (also known as the Stonewall Rebellion, Revolution, or simply just Stonewall) are not known, they are a forgotten moment in the radicalism of the 60s. People always remember the Anti-War movement, MLK Jr, Malcom X, the Nation of Islam, the Blank Panthers and the Rainbow Alliance (I will be posting on this soon). Some may remember a little more, they may recall the Alcatraz Red Power Movement, the American Indian Movement, the Weather Underground, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Commitee and the Students for a Democratic Society, but almost never do I meet anyone who recalls, or knows about the Stonewall Riots outside of the LGBTQQ community. My intent here is to tell the history of this event, and to attempt to do justice to its legacy.
