It started about three months ago. I castrated my self twice and successful castration. But then I opened up my scrotum six times in three months no infection. It healed fine with no scar. I opened it up again to pull the artery out undo the sutures and bleed out painlessly but I couldn't pull the artery out. Someone said that if I castrated myself then an endricologist will refuse to put me on HRT. Is that true idk. Please clarify for me. I all so want to know if insurance will cover gender reassignment surgery. If anyone knows the answer to this and been through the procedure before id greatly appreciate it. If your insurance didn't cover it how much did you have to pay out of pocket? Thanks. I'm trying to transition I'm desperate.

Having testis removed does not mean you cant have HRT. However, castrating yourself does tell doctors that what you think of them. You did not seek a professional to do it for you, and doctors are professionals. They may refuse you as a patient, since you did harm to yourself, in their eyes.
started HRT: July 13, 1991
orchi: December 23, 1994
trach shave: November, 1998

Welcome to Susan's Place. You probably have complicated matters a little and it will probably take a little more work to fix things. The scrotum is normally used as a source of skin in the surgery. If the incision isn't properly placed, some surgeons will refuse to do surgery. Other surgeons will have to consider another source of donor material.

You should have a replacement source of hormones for health reason if no other reason. Because of what you have done, I suspect most any Endo will want you to have some therapy before they treat you. Yes, we all know how bad dysphoria is but to a medical professional it might suggest a person could be harmful to themselves.

Cost of surgery will vary depending on the surgeon. Some of the out of country surgeons might charge less but in the United State, probably around $25,000.

Hi Ogional
If you approach a transgender friendly doctor you should have no problem either getting a prescription or getting advice on where to go. HRT is often recommended by medical professionals to reduce dysphoria or self harm. I started HRT this way. It really helped me.
I feel for your situation, Kirsten.

I'm curious how you managed castration without profuse bleeding, passing out from blood loss, excessive pain, etc.  I don't plan on self castration, that would be impossible.  I am a bit... concerned though.  If you are pulling arteries (?) .. needless to say as a wound care nurse this raised huge red flags for health and morbidity issues.

I tied off each testicle cord before cutting that's the only reason I didn't bleed out. The Dr complemented me saying I must've been a surgeon in the past. I told him nah I learned how to do it from youtube. As for the pain it felt like a bee sting. But it didn't hurt to cut the testicle cord that was painless. I still ended up loosing a lot of blood about two pints as for the morbidity I did not get infections. I even urinated on it by mistake and it did not get infected. I just got a good immune system.

OK I'm confused I thought you hadn't seen a doctor.  And you learned it from youtube? I guess people are doing everything these days on it, but I would think that's one youtube would censor.  Then again, they do allow other surgeries on it.  Well at least you don't have to worry about them anymore.. I suspect.

I don't have to worry about them anymore which makes me even more glad. Now that I have low testosterone will being castrated make my transition happen faster instead of slower and would more han likely get the desired results compared to not being castrated?

Excellent question for the post orchi & SRS folk in here.  You won't need androgen blockers and further testosterone 'damage' won't occur as a whole (Though allegedly the adrenals still produce some).  Estrogen should be more potent, and need less strength, plus you won't need spiro or androcur or such.

Also a good question for your endo or doc which I highly recommend seeing if you choose HRT route.  Keep in mind if you want surgery down there, after a while the tissue will shrink (generally always), and they'll have less to work with for SRS.
