So, for those of you who might have been poking around a few months ago (I sorta go accidentally inactive every so often cause I forget to check the forums) I mentioned I was pregnant. I was going to try and push for a hysterectomy at the same time as my elective c-section, but later something both scary and amazing came to light.

I was diagnosed with what's called complete placenta previa acreta. Placenta previa is when the placenta covers the cervix, complete means it's right on top of the opening. Acreta, precreta and I think one other variant are all when the placenta then fuses to the MUSCLE of the uterus instead of just the lining created for pregnancy. Mine was so bad that it also had invaded and fused to my cervix.

Because of these factors, a hysterectomy became mandatory. While I was scared to no end something would go wrong and I might bleed out, I was happy that I wouldn't have to tango with insurance to get it covered for transition purposes. I was given the option to keep my ovaries since my medical team know enough about transmen to know that they're sometimes removed as well to stop most if not all estrogen production. I'm keeping mine as I don't want to have to be on T my entire life or take other hormonal supplements to keep my bone density within a good range.

The surgery (what I was awake for, which was prep) was a great experience, my surgeon brought in a nurse who was the sweetest gay guy specifically because she knows I'm a gay trans dude and he was amazing at helping keep my nerves down. He even got permission to let my partners wait with me in the OR waiting area til it was time to wheel me in. And when I woke up, it was to his voice saying "there's that handsome guy!" after calling my name in the sweetest voice.

It's been about eight days since surgery and everything's going just fine. Last pregnancy (this is my second child) it took weeks for the initial effects to wear off. So things like being overtly moody, sudden mood swings and breast milk production took about three to four weeks to calm down. This time it's all taken about a week, though I can still feel some of the hormonal shifts but they're nowhere near as drastic when it comes to my emotional state.

I go in to have my staples taken out tomorrow, and if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask!

First of all, congrats on the baby!  (You had one, right?)  Hope they're healthy and happy!

Second, glad to hear that you're healing well!  Sounds like things are going great.

Third, congrats on the hysterectomy!  So glad that you were able to get it without hassles from insurance.  Talk about "turning something negative into something positive!"

Take care and both of you be well and whole, okay?  Glad to see you're back!
