Views: If Obama can throw his pastor under the bus, what will he do to us?

I'm sure if your a major corporation you will have no more problems out of Obama then you did out of Bush, or Clinton, or Bush, or Reagan ...

Here is the thing that I have with any organized religion. There are those who are members (the righteous) and those who are not.  Those who are not are at best viewed as unenlightened and at worst are to be considered sinful and untouchable.  Churches tend to shy away from anything that is not included in their beliefs and doctrines.  There is a separatist attitude that prevails.  More often than not, it goes beyond simple exclusion to the racist and bigoted attitudes that we find so offensive.

I find it utterly unwholesome that religion has anything to do with our political process. Why must we deem a candidate to be religious, much less a Christian in good standing?  Why do we force a religion on our leaders in this fashion?  Might they be members just for the status so that a political candidacy can be viable?  How disgusting.

I'm sure that the rest of the world looks at us as and wonders how in the world we have achieved the super power status that we "enjoy".

Easy as A B C - that's Atomic, Biological and Chemical (weapons) and some swell delivery systems - not to mention our willingness (despite our "christian nature") to use them where ever, and when ever, we damn well feel like it.

"despite our "christian nature"?  You must have mistyped.... it should read "in spite of our Christian nature".  We must keep in the long tradition of tyranny and conquest.  That's the real history of Christianity is it not? I'm only looking at history... not condemning anyone for their beliefs.  Unfortunately, it is the belief of some that rule the actions of the powerful.

I think anyone who runs for president since at least the 1890s and probably since James Buchanon (1861, ended term) can throw absolutely anyone under the bus.

The ambition and willingness to do whatever it takes to win definitely seem to mitigate against any saints, Gandhi's or Meesiah's running for and winning the office.

Besides, you have to have someone who will w/o much hesitation ship that next nuke to someone's front door.

I wrote my masters thesis on the reaction of the Christian Press to the use of atomic weapons in the month following their initial use on Japan.  Despite using over 90 sources, I could only find one - exactly one - that condemned their use, that of Dorthy Day and Peter Maurin in the Catholic Worker.
