Cindy

I know that I have bored you all with my ever happening retirement from my work place. It has been prolonged as I left suddenly due to illness and I had 12 months of paid sick leave and then had I had  about 18 months of accumulated holiday leave; so I've been hanging around like a bad smell in a perfume shop.

I have throughly enjoyed watching the machinations and manoeuvrings of people trying to get into the vacancy left by my departure. However I digress.

I'm now officially retired (as from 20 July). I'm on my pension and quite content. I shall live the life of an old lady of leisure   Ye.

I was asked today about my leaving do. 'What!'

"Oh we want to put on an event for an hour or so to say 'Thank You'."

'Ok' says I. 'That sounds fun.'

"People will want to celebrate your life and your science career. We want to show pictures of Peter as well as of Cindy. Remember we appreciate you as you. Will that be ok?"

'Mmm. OK, I'm proud of what I have accomplished. I have worked with fantastic people and they have accomplished great things. I'm not afraid of my past.'

Then of course it came out: the hidden stash of photos from over 30 years. We went through them, and memories sprung to the eyes like pollen in spring.

I was then asked to write my farewell post - Uhh? "Well you write better than we do so... please???"

'OK' So I did.. and I shall post it here if people are interested; after the event occurs.

So now I have to prepare for the 'big' event. It will be on the 14 August.

Your former workplace is known for it's photo history. My uncle worked in Biomedical Research and when he retired, all sorts of photos turned up - including one of him with is Ratjaculator.

Congratulations on a successful career, I've run across people who know know you professionally and all have spoken highly of you.
This is not medical advice. Always consult your doctor.

Enjoy it. You did it, no one else, and you have a lot to be proud of.

@Cindy
Dear Cindy:
Thank you for your retirement update....  oh yeah, for sure it most interesting and even fun to watch your previous underlings vie for your vacant position.  The jockeying and posturing of those wanting to fill your vacant job can be quite a spectator scene to behold.

So... for sure,  we will all want to see your self-authored "farewell letter" after your August 14th retirement party....

Now that you are a lady of leisure (notice that I didn't say "old lady" of leisure)   what are some of your bucket list plans that you will want to do?
~Travel?
~Volunteering?
~Activities involving your benevolence and philanthropy endeavors?
~Writing and submitting scientific articles based on your research and knowledge?
     ???   ???

Thank you for your post...
We will be anticipating your updates,
Hugs,
Danielle

I second the interest!
Our lives are our lives.  The accomplishments we achieved in it, is still part of us.
I happy that you are able to celebrate it!

Hugs, Jess

I hope you thoroughly enjoy yourself and don't look at it as a melancholy event.  You're passing to the next phase of your rich and textured life!   No stale perfume on you!  "A lady of leisure."  It has a nice ring to it.

Peace and love, Judi
But now old friends they're acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day.
