I need help finding a therapist.  I am really struggling to find out what to do. I've CD for many many years but feel I need to come out as the woman I know I am. How can I find someone to talk to professionally? I came out to my Dr and So's and told them I wanted help.

Hi! Welcome to the party. Unfortunately I am a teenager so I don't have an answer to your question but I'm sure someone around here can.

Hi Matty 💁‍♀️ Welcome to Susan's Place!  I'm Jessica.
The first place I would have expected help was from your doctors when you told them.
If there is a lgbtq friendly support group in your area, they may know of contacts that you can make that are local.

I see your new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site. Pay attention to the site rules they can be of great help and don't forget the link highlighted red.  It has answers to questions that are commonly asked.  Then join in on a topic you find interesting and learn and share.

@Matty3170
HelloMatty3170,
Thank you for your very first posting here on Susan's Place.  Yes, many transitioners have the similar issues that you expressed in your first message.
At the very least you can talk to your doctor, surely they can suggest some local places for you to get the much needed therapy and counseling that you desire.

I see that you are new here and may have other questions and concerns, this is the right place for you to be to find out what others have done that may have been in your circumstances.

My intention is to not hijack your post and what you stated, but First Things First.
Our member @Jessica already officially greeted you but please allow me to alsoWELCOME you to Susan's Place.  You will find this a safe and friendly place to share with others  and to read about others similar trials, tribulations, and successes.
It is nice that you have signed up so you can share with others and involve yourself with some give and take with other members.
When frustrated or if you have successes you can share it here if you wish and receive support from others and offer support to others. ....

***It's a very good chance that you might find that you will make some new friends here.

Location might help. Some of us may be in or near your area and know someone.

I would recommend Psychology Today's website. That's how I found mine. There were none in my town that specializes in gender issues.

1.  Get out your smart phone.
2.  Make sure GPS is working.
3.  Go to Google Chrome (or Safari if you have an iPhone).
4.  Type "Gender Therapist near me."

I tried that and got the Psychology Today website, plus several online and video counseling services just for starters —and a smorgasbord of other resources besides.

Hugs, Carly

If you live near a metropolitan area, there is probably a LGBT organization that maintains a website with a resources page that usually includes therapists.  Probably not a bad place to start.  But by all means look for someone who specializes or has extensive experience with gender issues.

Hi Matty,                 25 July 2018

If the Dallas Fort Worth Texas area is close, PM me as I can provide you with good references. You might want to provide your location in your profile; members can then provide references if they are in your area.

Welcome to Susan's Place.  I'm not the Welcome Wagon Gal, just the ole biddy that causes problems for the site  :police: Just the result of my having spent way too much time in reformatories and prisons. Fortunately, I managed to escape years ago and have yet to be apprehended.

Best of luck in your search for happiness. One piece of advice I can give you if happiness is what you are really looking for: Stay out of jail.

Best Always, Love,
Christine

I hope the lgbtq center is your next first stop.  Don't be embarrassed about wanting to find information that can help you, that's why they are there.

Hugs, Jess
