I've been married 25+ years and my wife has known for about 20 years. She is coolly tolerant of it. Only in the last year or two has she stopped asking me to take out my earrings (studs, no hoops). She has never seen me in a dress, skirt or make up, but a lot of the clothes I wear are adrogenous/feminine. The one time she saw me with lip color I was asked to remove it in no uncertain terms.
I understand her reluctance about it, but it does hurt that a large part of who I am has to be kept under wraps. When I have had a little to drink or am very tired, she has complained that my gestures, expressions, walking and speech become too feminine, so I am always on my guard. This could be a contributor to my high blood pressure.
