Hi,
A while ago my mum mentioned how most women walk and stand differently to men. This may seem really obvious but i never really thought of it before. Does anyone have any tips on walking/ standing etc more like a woman?
Thanks,
Lots of Love
Maria

Learn to walk and sit with a nice heavy hard cover book on your head.

Not even joking.

Watch shows with women in them and then study their movements, Try differents shows. Claws will not be the same as Special victims unit. But you should be able to find a pattern you would like to emulate. It will not happen over night. It needs lots and lots of practice.

Women walk with their feet in a straight line.  Imagine you are walking on a 2x4.  Each foot lands in front of the other, instead of a side-by-side zigzag.

Stand straight, with your gut sucked in, your boobs (or where your boobs will eventually be) out, your shoulders back and down, and your head straight.  Yes, I know, it sounds like a drill sargeant on a parade square, but those are key points to standing and walking like a woman.

Once you can stand like that, try walking like that.  The posture helps the walk, and the walk helps the posture.

I practise when I walk the dog.  I walk on rural roads with no sidewalk: the natural walking place when there is no traffic is the white line on the edge of the road.  So I walk the whiteline, making sure that both feet land on it.  The more I practise, the easier it becomes.

I would also recommend walking in heals more.
They make me walk more natural, at least so it seems to me. I always had to fight to walk like a guy and it always felt awkward.  First time I tried heels it just felt so natural

Heels tend to tip the top of the pelvis forward. My PT explained they were invented to make women's buttocks protrude. For people with a rounded lumbar spine (kyphosis or hunchback), wearing heels increases the arch in their low backs.  I have Flat Back Syndrome, so mild heals (up to 3")  are extremely comfortable because of the support they give to the arch of my lumbar spine. My female alter insists on wearing flats, but I avoid sneakers and flipflops and stick to chunky heel cowboy boots.

I read that part again and it made me remember walking on the rail of the railroad tracks when I was a kid. I think it really helped my balance, although I'd probably break my neck now [emoji23]

Just a quick caveat--this is how you'll carry yourself if you want to be read as a woman with poise and confidence, and perhaps a touch of formality.  It's good body language for work, first dates, that sort of thing.  I get that the advice was meant as something general for an absolute beginner, and that's fine.  I just wanted to point out that I know plenty of people who slouch and stare at their feet when they walk and are still read as female 100% of the time.  Women are allowed a wider selection of body language than men are, so there are lots of ways to "stand like a woman."  The question is, what kind of woman would you like to stand like?  I agree that doing lots of people watching is a good idea.  Check out women whose style you like.  Do they come across as sporty?  Commanding?  Soft?  Flirty?  Emulate what you identify with.  The media has done a bang-up job of dividing women into style groups and sub-groups and sub-groups of sub groups.  There is an Elle look and a Vogue look and a Good Housekeeping look.  Consume media with a critical eye and sort out exactly which sort of femininity appeals to you.  When I was a teenager who was desperately trying to get a handle on this female thing, I decided I wanted to be some amalgam of Helena Bonham Carter, Wynona Rider, and Edie Brickell.  This informed a whole host of style and behavioral choices that turned out not to suit me, but did get me read as a particular sort of female.

LOL, reminds me of the chant the girls used to do during calisthenics in junior high gym class:
