My ex-fiancee's mom INSISTED I was family, up until my ex outed me without permission... and then she cut me off without a word. After months of no contact, she posted on my Facebook wall today that there is an event with free giveaways somewhere tomorrow for anyone with my [deadname].

I felt betrayed by her cutting me out the most because, over the holidays, before I cracked, she confessed she wished her son were gay so she could have two sons, but she decided she liked me in spite of that. I thought I would have had her support above anyone's in transitioning to male, but anyway. [learned my lesson that people will surprise you there]

I'm pretty much over it now, as I am separating from my ex in a few weeks, but seriously. SERIOUSLY.

I am torn between ignoring the post, or informing her that I'm beginning the legal name change in a few weeks. Because boundaries, teaching people how I want to be treated, etc.

I am a bit gobsmacked. I was planning on Facebook-dumping everyone associated with that era of my life once I officially moved out on my own. This came a few weeks too soon.

Don't people have anything better to do???????  ???

I think, event though I'd be annoyed, I would act as though I thought they couldn't have been talking to/about me because that isn't me anymore.

Wow - that is something else. Are you going to go to the Giveaway to see what it looks like? What a weird opportunity.

Yes, people who know your 'government-issued' name will still call it. Family members, old exes, professors who do not respect your decision, etc. Fun times! What did you do to correct her that your dead name isn't your name now?
