I thought it was just an ingrown hair. But it is far more serious than that. Require'a a great amount of attention. It started with a pea size lump and by the third day was the size of a quail egg. I was hurting so bad that I looked for ways to relieve the pain. I saw it had a small white pimple not larger than .   So I squeezed and pus streamed out. The pain lessened and I applied tea tree oil on it and went to bed. Next day the lump had returned to it's previous size so I squeezed it again. This time thick smelly blood and pus came  out in large amounts. And again the pain was relieved. Then this morning it was back to huge so I squeezed it again with the same results. I am going to seek medical help this week but I understand that this can return. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else and what was the outcome.

Hi Dawn, hope you are doing well.  Did you see the MD yet?  Have you had that as a diagnosis in the past or is this something totally new for you?

Unless it has been a long running issue this is probably just a cyst.  I'd recommend seeing a doctor who will probably lance it and remove the sack inside of it to prevent its return.  You'll likely have the joy of maintaining packing to have it heal properly as well.

I do have it, actually. It started about seven years ago and it's been a consistent problem ever since. When untreated, it's resulted in multiple huge, painful cysts around my groin area that make it difficult to walk. I've kept it under control with a combination of various prescription topical medications and pills for years, but even with all of these it's still flared up to about %10 of its former severity every couple of months, with occasional %50 bursts once a year. I'm on Accutane for it right now, and am hoping this will make it go away permanently.

Just because you've had one cyst doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a chronic thing, though. I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens frequently after this current cyst goes away.

Yeah hopefully it's just one cyst like Lucca said, if you get that taken care of you may not get more, or at least not very often.  I have family members who occasionally get one cyst that goes away on its own or after getting it lanced.  I know it sucks having to go get it lanced by a doctor but they can really get all of the bad ->-bleeped-<- out of there much better than you can by squeezing it, which makes it much more likely to improve

My HS is pretty bad and I've had 6-7 surgeries for it and tried just about every drug or natural remedy, completely changed my diet, etc.  Diet helped a little bit but the only thing that ever helped me a lot were immunosuppressant drugs like humira, prednisone, remicade, etc.  It may seem like a condition of the skin/hair follicles but ultimately the root cause is autoimmune related.  The immunosupressants just carry a lot of risks since your body is less able to fight other illnesses or infections, so I wouldn't resort to them unless your condition is really bad.
