Hi everybody.. I got a question, Maybe someone can help me...

OK. I know that I was meant to be a female. What is the very first step? where do i go and what do i ask? a doctor or seek a therapist? I'm all by myself and have no one to tell me where to go and to help me.  I would love to be able to start hrt treatment on my birthday in October. I'm from Wisconsin and don;t know where to go.. any help would be great. Thanks for listening to me... Much Love Ziva!!

Hi there! I started with a therapist, then talked to my doctor who recommended an endocrinologist and another general practitioner that has been treating trans patients for over 20 years.

I would find your local LGBT center or the closest one to you. They will have all the resources you need. They can help with therapists and doctor recommendations.

I came out to my therapist in mid January and started HRT March 1. So starting in October isn't necessarily out of the question. But that's something only you and your doctors can determine.

Dusty has some good advice.

The first step IMO is to have a long, deep conversation with yourself. Ask yourself all the questions you might imagine a therapist would ask. Explore this as completely and deeply as you can with yourself. Nobody, and I mean nobody knows who you are better than you. But, you need to dig deep inside and really explore the feelings you are having. After that, ideally seek some support and validation by others in an LGBTQ group or friends you may already have. I would save the therapist for fine tuning. Best wishes.  :icon_chick:

Hey, Ziva!
I'd say depends on where you are. In civilization countries it probably enough to see therapist for the beginning and then go further. Somewhere it's better to find local resistance LGBT-community and ask for directions.

I came to realize and accept that I am a woman, but I did not know how to go about transitioning until I had access to the internet for the first time in 1998, which allowed me to do a lot of research, and find a therapist in my area who could refer me to a Doctor for HRT.

Interesting you wrote "resistance" and crossed it out. I understand there are some in the LGBTQ community that would like to strike two letters from LGBTQ -- the "T" especially. Not sure if that was your point. But, in my own experience there are some in the LGB community that don't like or understand us.

Hi Ziva

I'd definitely say therapy to start, it sort of help a clear your mind and future pathway.
Be totally open and honest and by doing so you sort of self diagnose your own feelings.
It's a very liberating feeling, I was scared to death to admit to someone how I felt but believe me it's now a very positive high point in my life looking back.
I wish you luck.
